It's not a Tesla

I traded in my 5 yr old Tesla Model 3 for the Ioniq 5. There are some features on the Ioniq I like better than the Tesla and some features on the Tesla that I like better than tge Ioniq.

I Love This Car!

I had leased a 2024 Ioniq 5. I liked it so much I bought this 2026 Ioniq 5 as soon as I could. Many of the minor control and entertainment system quibbles I had with the 2024 model were corrected, and the vehicle has a beautiful fit and finish. Smooth, fast, comfortable, super-quick charging with great range, and load capacity - what's not to love! Cool color, too, I think they call it "Ultimate Red!"

Too many items removed from this trim level

Upgraded my 2023 to 2026 I would expect the same items included in the trim. BUT no heated steering wheel, no ambient lighting, no auto-close side mirrors. Why would these be removed? They are simple items. You don't expect to get the new same trim with less than what you had originally. Very very disappointed. Had I known these were not included any longer I would not have purchased the car.

Ioniq "Goat" 5

The Ioniq 5 is the best car I have ever owned or driven. I have been a fan of EVs for many years. The 5 has everything I want in a car: quietness, reliability, 300+ miles per charge (this is to 80%; going to 100% would be even more miles), and fun to drive. I am glad I purchased this car. It was not on my list of EVs to buy until I saw it at the D.C. Auto Show. After doing some research and a test drive I knew I wanted it. Thanks for the great car Hyundai.

Why do you need a title?

The ipedal setup with the stupid paddles is annoying. The ipedal itself works well, but it should be able to be set as the "normal" driving mode instead of the (again) stupid paddles. The use of Bluelink to spy on how I drive and then send that data to all of the insurance companies is a horrible invasion of privacy. I have not signed up for Bluelink because of this. Unfortunately, you made the radio information setup only available to those who sign up for Bluelink. That reduced my overall rating significantly.

Great vehicle, but it yells at me a lot

Love the car, drives well and is really comfortable. Only complaint is it has far too many system beeps and alerts.i don’t need it to make noise when i turn it on. The parking beeps make parking more challenging as they are highly distracting. I should be able to disable the parking alerts for longer, right now each time I shift gears the alerts are re enabled. If I’m parallel parking I could shift gears four times. Also, I need a way to disable emergency breaking if I have a bike rack on the back.

Quirky but fun.

Fun to drive very comfortable on longer drives. However, there are many quirks that drive me nuts (parking sensors, trying to restart if you accidentally tried to engage drive or reverse without your foot on brake, start up screen experience seems to be different each drive.

Good but still ruff in some areas

I enjoy the car over all, but the driver attention system is a bit too in the strict side. It’s constantly telling me to watch the road, when I’m literally staring at the car in front of me.

Ex-Tesla owner: Ioniq 5 hardware is great, tech needs help

Having switched from a Tesla to an Ioniq 5, I want to emphasize how much I prefer the Ioniq's drive, build quality, and comfort. It is a fantastic vehicle. However, the overall EV experience is currently being held back by disjointed technology and a lack of minimalism. To make this the absolute best EV on the market, the user experience needs serious streamlining in a few key areas: Clunky Digital Key & Profiles: The car should instantly recognize the driver upon entry, set preferences, and be ready to drive. Forcing the driver to press the start button and manually select a user profile is an unnecessary bottleneck. No Walk-Away Lock: When I exit the car and walk away, the vehicle should simply turn off and lock automatically. Auto-Drive Inconsistency: The driver-assist technology is inconsistent enough that I rarely use it outside of low-speed, straight-line traffic. Too Much Redundancy: There are simply too many buttons, stalks, and extra steps to perform basic functions. Combined with complicated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, the software feels like an afterthought. All this daily friction takes away from what is otherwise an incredibly enjoyable driving experience. Because of these frustrating tech issues, I am currently giving the Ioniq 5 a 3 out of 5 rating, when the car's underlying quality truly deserves a 4 or 5. Hyundai, if you take the seamless, minimalist tech approach of Tesla and pair it with your superior build quality, you will take over the world. You have an amazing car here—you guys can fix these software issues!

Things to improve

As delivered, this is an excellent vehicle. It is my 3rd 100% electric vehicle, and the best so far. This review is primarily to encourage Hyundai to improve what just works to refine that function into the best available through software updates.

An early grade
