Hyundai Ionic 5 SEL vs Tesla Y

I recently sold my 2023 Tesla Model Y and purchased this 2026 Hyundai Ionic 5 SEL. I find almost every feature to be equal to or better than the Tesla, at a significantly lower cost. Ride quality, seat comfort, visibility, performance, interior quality, controls, and mileage are all better! If you nit-pick, I miss having mirrors that retract for car washes and memory seats. It would be nice to be able to add these as options to the SEL, without having to go to the upgrade and more expense.

Classy and affordable

This is a major step up from the Kona EV. More room in the back seat. Massive trunk space. Love that there’s not a giant center console taking up space. Love all the floor room. Digital teal is my favored color. Love the extra EV range.

Imperfect but very good

Drives very well. A large amount of storage Still not a hands free experience to control audio and nav, especially for seeking chargers. Confusing safety features

Makes driving fun again

Quiet, smooth ride. Great acceleration. Automation works very well. Downside is the inclusion of the large sunroof. Wanted the all the other features except that one. Makes the cabin much hotter and have never used one in Arizona. Look forward to driving for many years and eager to see how the range is during the fall and winter months. Voted down comfort by one point as the seats are narrow and quite warm requiring the use of seat cooling. Also, when AC is in auto any change resets to fresh air from recirculating. When it is 105+ degrees this is annoying.

Great car, but....

I love everything about the 2026 Ioniq 5 except the fact that with the charging port on the passenger side it does not line up with the Telsa DC supercharger fast charge stations. The only option is to take up two charging spots at the station which seems to upset the Tesla drivers who are also wanting to charge. Hyundai needs to make an extension cable approved for DC fast charge available. Otherwise it is an exceptional vehicle.

I LOVE THIS CAR

The Ioniq 5 is an awesome car! It is so quiet and fast and loaded with bells and whistles! I like the size, the style and just about everything about it. It charges fast and is just a pleasure to drive.

Mostly Awesome only a couple of issues.

Love my new Hyundai only a couple of things I’m disappointed in. I have the AWD Ionic 5. There is no backseat controls for temperature which most of the high end cars have. The other thing is that the car play system is more difficult to navigate than other cars I have rented. Also this model has the parking features but you have to be out of the car for it to park itself. That’s not realistic if you are parallel parking anywhere!

We Love This Car

When the lease on our Ioniq5 was up we leased a 2026 Ioniq5. We loved our 2023 Ioniq5 and we love our new 2026 model even more. It handles beautifully, is very comfortable, spacious, and quiet, has a well designed screen, and a rear window wiper. We like that it can be charged at high speed Tesla chargers, and it comes with interfaces to all other chargers as well.

First EV - Very Satisfied

This is my first EV. I like the fact that the Ioniq 5 has a good mix of screen based and manual controls. I bought the car in June and haven’t used the heater yet, but the A/C is amazing. I like the easy to use manual controls and especially like the 3 levels of auto which provides 3 levels of fan speed with auto temperature. The audio system is also very good. I purchased the SEL for less than $40,000 with Hyundai incentives. I think the car has many advanced features for a car in this price range.
