My favorite car ever when I first got it and I was planning on getting another until I had an ICCU failure. Very bad and unsafe experience when that happened.

Disappointed in not having a back windshield wiper. The year we purchased did not come with one. We know newer models have it, which is a good addition.

The car is great but sharing of privacy information is BAD

The car has run well however with barely 12K miles in 3 years. The depreciation is atrocious! The Hyundai incentive to get a level 2 was a bait and switch as the process to get it was opaque so it never was obtainable despite being mentioned on the sales contract. . Mirak Hyundai was very unhelpful in resolving this issue; the sales guy ghosted us after the sale. The most atrocious aspect of owning this car is the sale of private information recorded by the car to various parties. There is no explicit way to opt out or as the usual Hyundai modus operandi it is extremely difficult to execute the process. So despite the car being sound the interaction with the Hyundai brand is malodorous. No more Hyundai’s in our future.

Ordinary standard of EV

An ordinary standard EV with attractive interior and multimedia. Its battery does not perform well after 50 K miles. No rear windshield wiper. Value for the money is not as expected. After sales service needs improvement.

Best EV but a fatal flaw.

The Ioniq 5 is the best EV available in my opinion with the unfortunate fatal flaw that it may very well die anytime with no other action possible that call for towing to the nearest Hynudai dealer and wait up to one month or more the repair. The car (ICCU) died on the highway and was "bricked" with no lights and could not even get it into neutral to move it at all. Fortunately it was daytime on the snowy Winter day and I didn't have the Grandchildren with me.

Great when working, but another potential ICCU failure creates anxiety

Love most things about the car. Minor nitpicks: the paint could be more durable, the software could work quicker, the suspension could be tighter, the turning radius better. Pros: Great interior room, refreshing design (not another bland SUV). The significant issue that may turn me off from ever buying another Hyundai: the way the ICCU failures have been handled. Yes, I got a new one under warranty...but I have no confidence that there isn't a design flaw that will lead to another unexpected power loss at any moment, with no warning.

Unsafe. Lack of all safety features on catastrophic failure.

My mom got stranded in Las Vegas summer heat when something related to the battery just died and all computerized systems failed. She managed to get out of traffic and pull into a parking lot driveway but the vehicle died completely just barely into the driveway, sloped into traffic without any emergency braking available since the whole system was dead. She was stuck in the car having to keep pressure on the brake pedal until the assistance arrived. On top of that, the roadside assistance offered by Hyundai was not arriving and kept pushing the ETA out. I was able to use my personal AAA service to get assistance within the hour. Meanwhile, my mom was trapped in the car without air conditioning or even the ability to roll down her window. On top of that, it took Hyundai exactly 1 month to repar the vehicle with very poor status updates and only a mediocre rental compensation that still ended up costing more than a car payment. I will not buy Hyundai ever again. Even Hyundai corporate failed to classify the issue as a safety concern and would not consider taking the vehicle back when we still had no idea if this was ever going to get fixed. The fact that this car has held together since it was repaired is what merits the single star. I will never forgive Hyundai for their handling of this case. My mom could have rolled back into traffic causing a major incident had not my AAA service arrived.

Less than I had hoped it would be…

Issues: 1) I had brought my vehicle in for service due to a thump, thump sound coming from the right front wheel/tire. Low miles, so I figured they’d find the cause and I’d be in my way. No such luck. I waited a bit over 3 hrs at the dealership for them to tell me they found nothing wrong. I told two different people I had had an audio recording of the sound but no one was interested in hearing it. That was in Sept or Oct 2025. 2) At around 14,000 miles (May ‘26), I brought the vehicle back again because the noise was getting worse. A different Service Mgr was in place and went with me for a ride. He immediately heard what I heard. He apologized for the gaffe from my previous visit. Short story is I had to pay for a new set of tires. Why? Because the tires put on by the manufacturer weren’t suitable for an electric vehicle. To me it seems the cost to replace them should’ve been handled by Hyundai Corp (NOT the dealership - Hyundai Corp). I didn’t like but they covered the cost of labor, and they matched a price that was lower than what they quoted me. Despite my paying for a new set of tires supposedly made for electric vehicles, I still have the same “thump thump” sound coming from the right front end. I now have to bring the vehicle back again so the Service Dept can do more testing. 3) They won’t have an electric vehicle as a loaner. No, I’ll have gas vehicle, and I’ll have the “pleasure” of paying the hideous price of gas to fill it when I return it (whenever that will be). 4) Not real happy with the experience of this vehicle.

Ownership Review for 1st 3yrs

It's a nice Electric Vehicle with great high voltage DC charging time...fun to drive but may have questionable safety features under specific threat conditions - drove into garage inadvertently without auto breaking preventing the incident. Repair cost were high for the level of damage incurred.

Love It

An amazing car, favorite to drive of all I've owned. Love the spaciousness and visibility, smoothness of ride, quickness of acceleration, etc. Biggest and really only downside is the lack of rear windshield wiper, ridiculous oversight as it should be standard for all (it is always hard to see out of regardless of treatments used). The heater is a bit finicky as well just in that it sometimes heats up very fast when cold outside and other times it takes a good deal longer.
