A fuel efficient PHEV with ample space

My PHEV Tuscon has averaged 46 MPG for the 8,000 miles I've had it. The car has ample space and handles well. It is not without flaws; most minor. that said, I enjoy driving the car and am happy to be getting great fuel economy. It does help that I have solar panels on my house so the electricity used to charge my batteries is "free".

Not what I expected

The CarPlay keeps disconnecting and I’m constantly getting collision light.

Great overall SUV.

I love the car. Not many issues. Gas tank is way too small but it gets such great gas mileage not a major issue. The charging pad for the phone is not usable. You will likely have to turn it off but still nice place to lay the phone. The tech on the car is awesome. Also really like the self parking feature for a tight garage.

Really Nice Car -- Totally Under-Rated Brand

Our PHEV runs great, gives decent mileage on its battery, and has a space age dashboard. Drive is excellent on local roads as well as the highway. Plenty of power. Hyundai make a great car with a very generous warranty.

Annoying vehicle

I thought I would love this car but I don’t. There are so many irritating things about it: the backup warning sound is so loud that that people outside cover their ears and frown at me. The car door lock operations are so inconsistent that I really struggle just to lock or unlock the car but other times the car unlocks automatically before I even get to the door. The cars technology drives me crazy. I am a safe cautious driver but sometimes I drive a mile or so and it tells me it’s time to take a break multiple times, so many warnings about keeping eyes on road and warnings about cars on either side make for a stressful driving experience. I’m anxious when I drive this car. I don’t find d all the technology easy to navigate and it really annoys me that I have to “log in” just to drive the car. Even when it is set so I just need to press Confirm is annoying to me. Also wish the EV only range was higher. And wish a little light came on when you open the cover to plug in to charge; it’s barge to plug in the dark.

Plug-In Hybrid - Best Way to transition to an electric living

The Hyundai Tucson Plug-In Hybrid is possibly one of the best vehicles to help transition from a large dependence on gasoline by being able to reduce engine usage for those short daily commutes or stop-n-go traffic. Be relatively worry-free when sitting in the drive-thru, long red light, or other condition causing you to have the car on but sitting idle. The electric mobility allows for completely cutting gas usage to *0* and not having to worry about stop-start causing issues with the gas engine. Plenty of performance from the dual motor to easily get up to speed or around obstacles while feeling planted. Don't want to worry about losing electric performance when you get to your destination after using most of the electric range on the highway? Then easily press the EV/HEV button to turn the engine on so the battery stays charged when going highway speed so when you get off the highway at your destination so you can still use the electric and still feel no performance loss.

Brake assistance biggest downfall

I like everything about the car, except for the brake assist. It is so incredibly sensitive that I will literally be 1000ft behind the car in front of me going 5mph, and it will hard brake on the fwy. My husband has sprained his wrist, and I’ve almost been rear ended twice.

It’s an ok car

I was really happy with the car for the first 6 months and then after driving it exclusively in ev mode for a few weeks, the 12v battery died and the car needed to be jump started. This never happened with my Volvo phev.

I’ve had a lot of cars. Cars I bought and cars I’ve leased. I really don’t care much for cars. I just want to get to point b from point a. But this car, this is the first car I absolutely LOVE. I might extend my lease!!!!

Overall great, but there are battery issues

Overall, I really like this vehicle. It's comfortable and has more tech than I have ever experienced. The only down side is the battery has randomly died twice - even with a fresh charge and full tank of gas. No one seems to be able to provide an explanation either. If this problem could be solved, I would give the vehicle 5 stars.

Nearly perfect PHEV

I love my Tucson PHEV. I hope they keep making them, because they’re a great fit for people like me - parents of small kids who don’t want to go out of their way to accommodate fully electric cars, but want to really cut back on gas expenses. There are a few minor issues I think Hyundai should look at for future models, but these are iterative quirks rather than major downsides.
