Why won't Hyundai fix the ICCU issue?

ICCU crapped out at 5,200 miles. Took the nearest Ioniq-capable dealership 23 actual days to get and install parts. Getting vehicle to dealer was an ordeal: Roadside Assistance was of absolutely no help. They were unable to determine if a particular Hyundai dealer was equipped to work on EVs. So spent about an hour calling multiple dealerships to find the nearest capable dealer. Hyundai Customer Care was also basically no help. The ICCU is just one of the issues I've run into. OTA updates have failed to complete multiple times. Front collision sensors go off randomly. Tailgate rattles and thunk incessantly, despite multiple trips to original dealer. iPhone app often doesn't communicate with the vehicle, especially when requesting a "stop charging." Software is buggy. Overall UI is barely adequate. At this point, I've lost a great deal of trust in the vehicle and just want to make it 10 more months until my lease ends. Will definitely never consider a Hyundai (or Genesis) again.

Excellent first EV

The Ionic 5 Limited does just about everything right. Quick acceleration, smooth quiet ride, and lots of space in all seats even for big adults. Great eye appeal. Good software. Four areas deserve attention.

drives well but a very dumb car

If the engineers had used their brains this would be a great car to own. But they didn't provide seat memory there is no rear windshield wiper and worst of all it tells the whole world when you have left the car unlocked by sticking its handles out. How stupid.

Just a few tweaks needed!

Great: DCFC charging speed, ride quality, efficiency. Annoying: Unable to select the highest level of 1-pedal or automatic high beams as default settings. It terrible to have to reset it after having used reverse! The highest level of regen could actually be stronger, too. The lower front part of the center console is out-of-reach, unusable, and badly in need of a redesign. The frunk is tiny and mostly useless, compared to my previous Mustang Mach-E or the Tesla Model Y. The auto-open rear hatch is inconsistent: sometimes it opens, sometimes it doesn't, and at times it opens when I don't want it to. The software could use improvement, particularly when switching from listening to music via CarPlay to listening to the HD or Sirius radio. It's simply too cumbersome to accomplish something that should require a single tap. Good to see you've added a rear wiper and NACS port to the new model (neither of which my 2024 had), but the NACS port should be on the driver side. It's also puzzling how the ICCU issue has not yet been completely eradicated. I suffered a drained 12v because of this.

Strong quality and aesthetics at a competitive price

Pros - Performance, comfort, sound, and price Cons - no true self-driving and a few detection features are buggy If the range was boosted to above 400 miles I’d change to 5 star. My city driving range is fantastic with all the regen braking but long road trips really take a hit on mi/Kw

No Rear Window Wipers! Who does that?

It’s embarrassing that a car of this quality does not have rear window windshield wipers. It’s completely absurd and it’s unsafe.

Solid Car with One Annoying Flaw

The Ioniq 5 does a lot of things right, but my ownership experience has been consistently bothered by one major issue: the rear hatch/door latch noise. There is a recurring creaking, knocking, or rattling sound from the rear of the car, especially when driving over bumps, turning, or on uneven roads. It’s worse in colder weather. In such a quiet EV, this kind of noise becomes very noticeable and frustrating. This may not be a safety issue, but it absolutely affects the perceived build quality. For a car in this price range, I expected better fit and finish. Until this is properly fixed, it takes away from what could otherwise be a great vehicle.

- [ ] things i like - [ ] fast charging - [ ] now works with supercharger network - [ ] looks cool - [ ] comfy ride - [ ] quiet - [ ] sound system okay - [ ] v2l adapter - [ ] HDA lane keep respects lane changes - [ ] back lays flat and fits mattress for camping - [ ] smooth regen, similar to model y - [ ] Radio stays off after CarPlay disconnect (Leaf will switch to radio even if radio was previously off) - [ ] things that could be better - [ ] long range battery - [ ] i-pedal doesn't stay on all time - [ ] and dings with cruise control - [ ] also makes take off slightly bumpy - [ ] HDAlane keep stays on after cruise off - [ ] and a little jerky - [ ] not sure if it's HDA 2 - [ ] frunk too small, although there's space for fast food - [ ] RWD in other markets get deeper frunk, but have to upgrade manually in USA $300 - [ ] sub trunk could be bigger too - [ ] Can't run car play map and internal map simultaneously to compare - [ ] back seats can't be folded from back maybe just SE trim - [ ] nav doesn't know if chargers are online - [ ] Key fob is soft touch plastic and gonna get sticky and gross - [ ] ICCU issues

Comfortable ride, overcomplicated buttons and buggy app interface

We leased our 2024 Ionic 5 and unfortunately the car hasn't lived up to the great reviews. On the positive side, the ride is really comfortable, but there are way to many controls, buttons, screen options - Hyundai has overcomplicated how the car runs. The app is pretty terrible and isn't as good as other EV's. Often times the dash and the app have two different ranges associated with the vehicle. We've had a bunch of headaches trying to use their recommended "fast" chargers when we've been taking long distance trips but they've often not worked or have been slow. We like the car's safety ratings, but won't be leasing or buying another one. We've been really disappointed in the dealership and their service.
