10k miles, don't drive ⚠️ warning, 2 weeks in service and counting

I’ve owned my Hyundai Ioniq 5 for 18 months and have only put about 10,000 miles on it. I don’t drive much and take good care of my vehicles, which makes the current situation even more frustrating. My car has now been in service for more than two weeks, with no clear timeline or meaningful updates. For a vehicle that came with two years of complimentary charging, I expected reliability. Instead, I’ve been stuck driving a gas-powered rental minivan, spending time, money, and energy I never planned to spend, especially ironic given that I chose an EV specifically to avoid fuel costs and environmental impact. The Ioniq 5 is great when it works, but these kinds of long service delays make it hard to trust the ownership experience. I’m hoping Hyundai recognizes the inconvenience and additional out-of-pocket costs this situation has caused and does something to make this right. At the very least, customers shouldn’t be left worse off than before they went electric. Right now, it’s very hard to recommend the Ioniq 5 until the reliability and service delays are seriously addressed.

Great car, a few nit

My first EV and in general I love it and will never go back to ICE. That said… 1) way too much screen space and difficult to find anything. This is common, but makes operating the car considerably more difficult to do. 2) no rear windshield wiper. I just can’t. 3) No spare tire. I know these are going away, but I’ve already had to replace a tire that had sidewall damage and it made dealing with the flat much more time consuming. 4) Beeps. Jesus. They are constant and I have no centralized space to figure out what they correspond to, not to mention they can be incredibly startling when they come out of nowhere. If I need to know something, I shouldn’t have to spend thirty seconds, while driving, to figure it out. Just give me the info I need in an obvious spot and kill all the eye candy. I’m not playing a video game (although my experience is that is exactly what most people are doing in their cars). 5) I hate hate hate non-press “buttons”. There’s a whole line of these underneath the center display, and no tactile feedback. 6) escape proof exterior door handles. I am leasing this vehicle and will be looking for a car that fixes some or all of these issues when the lease is up. I really liked the Ioniq but will look for something I can interact with more easily on the next one. Oh, and learn how to tell me if 1 or 10 is higher in your survey directly below this box.

Enjoyable but lacks real usability in certain cases

we thoroughly enjoyed our ioniq5. It was our sole car for a year with a family of 4 ( two toddlers). While it wasn’t the best option in long road trips, vacations and traveling longer than just outside our Local Bubble—we enjoyed our ioniq5. It’s fun to drive, easy to maintain and perfect for around town and semi-local trips.

Fast Charging and Easy for Everyday Driving

This is my second IONIQ 5, leased after my first one was totaled in an accident. The car has excellent battery charging performance and is fun to drive. However, the build quality is noticeably low. I constantly hear a noise from the trunk door, as if some bolts are loose. I worry that after three to four years, the car may become difficult to maintain. Bottom line: the IONIQ 5 is a good option to lease if you can get a solid deal—but not something I’d want to keep long-term.

Amazing car in a compact package. Best choice we have ever made.

We had a friend buy an Ionic 5, and we looked into it. We were looking to buy another brand of electric vehicle and researched this after we saw our friends. By and far, this car has so much more than any other maker's electric vehicle. I drive this car 3 days a week with an hour commute both ways. About 72 miles of interstate and highway, and I only need to charge it once back home, with about 30% still left. It is comfortable, easy to drive, FAST when needed, and just a totally amazing car. I get a ton of compliments on it. With the adapter and access to fast chargers, it makes traveling is easy. There is a learning curve to electric vehicles, it's charging, and charger locations. If I had any advice, look at the apps and find an electrician experienced in installing e-car chargers for your home charger. This made our utility bill go up $12 a month by charging it 4-5 days a week. There is a learning curve with driving and using a lighter foot to save the battery.

Better cars out there

Terrible range and terrible build. Noisy creeks and 12v battery died within 10k miles. A/C terrible and no rear windshield wiper. Rapid tire wear. Will not buy another Hyundai.

Ioniq5 experience after 1yr driving.

Overall it's a great EV car but there are some improvements if can be made. Batter charging performance amazing. Air conditioning very good. Sensors working fine except sometimes . Inside space is OK. Trunk space less. Console need to improve. Battery drains faster Hyundai app climate control can be more intelligent auto control. Child lock position can be changed.

The car is good.

The car sensors always go off for no reason. This is a problem, the dealer says this is normal and won't fix this issue. It would be wonderful to have a bigger display screen. The car color blends in with the black pavement and people keep trying to hit me on the road. They DON'T see the car. It would be nice if the car was a little bit taller, so other cars can see it.

If you wish to learn more about the sensors please refer to Chapter 7 in the owners handbook. You will notice that some of the different safety features use the same cameras and sensors as other features. The handbook can explain how to adjust or disable these features. ^ cc

Best car I’ve ever owned

This car hits all the right notes. It has amazing acceleration, charges as fast as any EV, and to top it all off Hyundai threw in 2 years of free charging. I honestly couldn’t ask for more.
