Great car with some minor flaws.

I was looking for a 4WD battery electric vehicle. The main candidates were: Tesla Model Y, VW ID.4, Kia EV6. I chose the Ioniq 5 for it's modern design, spacious interior, driving characteristics, availability, and price. I felt that the Ioniq 5 is a fresh design with many unique features such as the 800 volt battery system, the user selectable 4WD, the V2L capability and the multiple driving modes. Having said that, the car does have some flaws. The major flaw seems to be in the 12 volt system that has been a problem with my specific vehicle (12V battery drains when car isn't driven for 2-3 days). There are many small user interface flaws that should be addressed such as fussy regen braking settings, automated lane keeping and cruise control controls are confusing. But overall, I am satisfied with the vehicle and love the performance and driving experience.

Looks and drives great

The look of the vehicle is different from others and stands out. The interior is great and I like the 2 screens. I also like the steering wheel buttons and the actual buttons included so it's not all touch screen features. The Bose system in the limited trim isn't the best, so I just crank up the volume. I wish USB C and wireless AA was standard. The drive quality is smooth without a lot of outside noise. Very quiet cabin. Lots of leg room for driver and passengers.

This is a Hyundai? Crazy Good.

I thought the Ioniq 6 was going to be something, but at the Chicago Auto Show this year, I met the Ioniq 5. The forward styling in and out just knocked my over. And the subtle design cues are restrained, and seeming ever-present. The seats are luxurious, vented, and you won't know it's know leather- (spoiler alert). The ride is better than my old BWM 328, and so much quieter. Road noise is now a memory. If selected, the car effortlessly drives itself on the highway without consistently over-reacting to minor curves. The car tells you if someone is next to you, behind you, suddenly walking in front or behind you. I am stunned this is the Hyundai brand. Congrats on this fantastic auto.

Exceeded Expectations -- Charging Advice

Fit and finish, both interior and exterior are excellent. Acceleration is great. Controls are intuitive. Clever features like ability to pull car out of parking space with key fob. Nice large glass moonroof. Lots of fun to drive. Very impressed. Switched from a Tesla Y to this Hyundai Ionic 5 limited for more room. Only downside was the need to install proper outlet in garage to enable home charging since the Hyundai public charging network isn't nearly as populated yet. Nevertheless, the $2K home outlet is a good investment which adds resale value to the house. The home charger itself will also cost about $550 (I recommend the Tesla model charger which is designed to fit Hyundai without an adapter--- J1772 style---and has high reliability ratings among electricians who install the outlets).

A good electric car that does not sacrifice features to be electric

Good charging capabilities, reasonable range, and distinctive styling. I LOVE the fact that it HAS BUTTONS, which is a HUGE ADVANTAGE over its primary competitor. (I feel that sticking a tablet on a basic car is dumb design.) The cabin is very comfortable both forward and back, for both larger and smaller people. It falls down on the steering wheel blocking some elements of the dashboard, lack of divider between driver and passenger allowing items to roll into pedals, and does not fully utilize the HUD for surrounding traffic the way its primary competitor does (only shows such traffic on highways).

The car design is awesome, however various details affect to get the 5 stars.

The shape and the line of the car, the range with a charge, the quiet engine, and the quality of the paint it's great, however there is small details and some safety issues that affect the overall of the Ioniq 5. It's hard to say if I choose to get one more Ioniq 5, probably the 6 expecting better quality and an improved overall.

The good, the bad, and the annoying

The good: EV performance and range The Bad: Terrible User interface and driver assist systems that aren't ready for deployment The Annoying: Having to spend an extra $800 for a spare tire. At the price of an IONIQ 5, Hyundai shouldn't be nickel and diming their customers.

Edison building 10, Schenectady New York when it was called the Automated Equipment and Development Division, late 1970's early1980's. In building 10 were Draftsman ,Engineers, Designers,Toolmakers Machinists, all in one building. Research and development was a very rewarding and demanding job intellectually. One of the most interesting endeavors, which there were many, was the engineering of the G.E. electric Auto which now is displayed at the Schenectady Museum. Through the years I have watched for an auto that could excite me and my wife enough to make the move from gasoline to electric. Tesla was not doing it for us! Great EV!

I leased my Hyundai through McDonald Automotive via Suzanne. I testvdrove the car when it was snowing, and Suzanne was great to work with. She never got annoyed with me when I didn't like a car because of the color. ? And, she was always willing to take my call after I went home with my Ioniq 5. I will definitely do business with them again!

Not sure what I should say in this area. Not sure what the Vehicle review summary is. unless you are talking about the reviews found online about this vehicle, they were all great and put the Ioniq at the top or near the top.

Critical Safety Issue to be addressed

1) Please recall / fix the brake light issue immediately (brake light doesn't turn on until the car fully stops while using i-pedal) 2) When can we expect OTA update in North America? 3) Please update the survey questionnaire itself... For questions don't apply to EV drivers 4) Mine is 2023 limited. When will we use USB-C instead of regular USB plugs?

Love this car Good range, but of course would want even more Better than expected cargo room- but of course would want more (batteries take a lot of space obviously) Trim and build extremely good- much better than expected This had been a great vehicle thus far (2K miles) Too long a wait wife delivery- this was the top line model which was slow to arrive (if fact I jumped off the wait list to grab another that had been declined by the original buyer)

Fun Drive

After a trip to Buson where we rode in this vehicle I came home and new I had to have one. This car has a top rating for a reason. Give it a try!!!! You do have to upgrade to get some perks I feel should just come with the car such a a cover for the trunk area so people cannot look in. Also, it does not have pre-set driver seat adjustments you have to set it every time it is moved, this goes for the steering wheel as well. But, I made the choice not to pay the extra 10K for the luxury addition. My least favorite thing is the lack of a rear windshield wiper. I live in a place that gets a lot of rain and it is hard to see out the back. Maybe this will change in the next year or so.

I never thought I would buy a HYUNDAI

This car is a surprise for me. I was going for the Mach E, when a friend of mine suggested I read up on the Ioniq5 This is such a complete car. As with other reviewers, the price seems a bit high. However, this may be due to technology built in the car

Great car but charging stations a big problem and steering jerks.

Overall like it. Steering is a problem it jerks and charging stations are rare and crowded and LOW KW is frequent. Car is pretty...it is quiet and roomy and fun to drive. It has surprising acceleration.

Great through first 5k. Charging is faster then normal but concerned about durability overall happy with purchase so far. Would like to see price comedown for later models as its over priced for what it is, but paying for new technology

First all electric vehicle for me

I prefer top of line so I bought the limited edition. It has lots of bells and whistles but could have more for top luxury, for the price paid. It’s fast, drives fairly smooth, and looks great. It’s comfortable inside, has tons of room. Electric is a whole different experience for sure.

No more visit to gas station

It's fast and reliable. Gear selection is confusing at first but it will get used to soon Sounds system is good and android auto is great and built in navigation is useful as well screen is big and clear

Really nice care - looks great, runs great and it really moves!

There is a certain amount of adjustment to going to an EV, so be prepared for that when you buy one. Don't let it overwhelm you because once you've over that initial learning curve you'll never want to drive anything else. We have a Level 2 charger installed in our garage now and can charge it overnight when the rates are extremely low. We have yet to take it for a long road trip but I look forward to doing that in the near future. The Ioniq 5 and go to a full charge in just 20min so it's not a big deal time-wise. The styling of the car is top-notch - it's really a beautiful car (we love the matte finish in gray for color)! The controls are thoughtful and you have the option to use either the screen or button controls for the basic features which I personally like - sometimes it's just easier/faster to push a button instead of going to the screen. And I do love the acceleration! This car moves effortlessly! It's fun! The one change that I would make is to add a rear windshield wiper (we live in Oregon and it rains a lot here - all the cameras do help compensate for the lack of a rear wiper however). And I should also mention that with an EV there is NO MAINTENANCE EVER!! - just tires and window washing fluids!. The no maintenance coupled with State and Federal rebates add up to quite a savings over the lifetime of the EV. All and all I'm very satisfied with this car and I think it's an excellent vehicle!
