Poor Battery Life

Battery issues are persistent. Car has always concern with small battery being drained and dead.

Satisfied Customer, 3 Imporvements Recommended

First please know I am a very satisfied customer. The three improvements I recommend are: 1. Please improve outward visibility, specifically from the driver's seat looking left. It is difficult to see pedestrians or cyclists at a corner. 2. Please offer brighter night driving headlights. It is difficult to see anything at night, especially in rural settings. 3. Please offer more supple tires. When the tires are not the exact same pressure, the ride quality suffers at highway speed.

Not as good as a Tesla

We also own a Tesla Y and so I compare the Ioniq to it a lot. The seats in the Hyundai are not comfortable on a long distance drive. I get very tired of having to reset the e-brake every time I drive. The Ioniq's computer is constantly telling me to take a break when I've just started driving.

I love my car!

Car is great, drives well and has enough storage to hold tons of stuff for road trips. I love the look of the car and love that it actually has similar controls inside to a gas car. Display is great and being able to access Tesla superchargers is a big difference.

Best car ever

Great car. With solar panels on our roof, the cost of fuel (kWh) and maintenance has been under $250 per year. Fastest car ever had. Very reliable and comfy.

Fun car to drive and own

I didn't want to go to the gas station anymore and my Ioniq fits the bill. It's a fun little car to drive, I like the app for looking doors and checking on it. I needed to know if I would like having an electric car and I do. I should say, I have range anxiety and have never driven so far from home that I need to use a public charger. I would be uncomfortable driving on the I-5 between LA and the Bay Area because it is a small car. I wasn't enthused about the non-leather seats but actually they are nice and the white upholstery is easy to clean.

Just waiting for it to die

Great car. I love it. But Hyundai has not been adequately able to address the dying ICCU issue. I feel like I am just waiting for the thing to die.

Poor combination

Horrible turning radius combined with a slanted hatch back that minimizes the space to haul things make this car the worst of both worlds. It's annoying to have the turning radius of a cargo van. It's also annoying to have to lay all the seats flat anytime you want to put anything beyond grocery bags in the back. It's an EV which is the best thing about it but as far as the car design goes they missed the mark solidly. No wonder it was the cheapest car to lease by a mile.

Too many electrical parts had to be replaced

The vehicle is fun to drive, but too many electric charging components (12v battery, battery cable, battery charging unit and ICCU) had to be replaced over a two month period.

Ioniq 5 review

Overall technology is good however alignment issue from day 1 never got resolved even after taking to 3 different dealers. Hyundai service customer service is the worse of all car manufacturers because they push the problem to another dealer, take over a week to even look at the problem and do a crappy job in fixing the problem.

Almost perfect

We love our 2025 Ioniq 5. The only concern we have is the 5%-10% chance the ICCU unit will fail and they still don’t have a root cause. Ours has not failed yet. There are a couple other small issues we are hoping will get fixed at our next service appointment, but they are minor inconveniences. The car drives great, has very good range, and excellent safety features.

A great start but needs improvement

After one year with my Ioniq5: Pros - Great pickup, comfortable with plenty of room in front and back seats, good trunk space. Cons: Cabin temperature controls are nearly impossible to read - especially in the summer with bright sun and wearing sunglasses. Battery performance is less than optimal, less than I expected in colder temperatures. [Availability of fast charging stations is sketchy. Using three apps to locate a charging station is annoying. This has nothing to do with the vehicle performance but is a significant factor when considering the purchase of an EV.] The regenerative braking paddle on my car is set at level 1 when I start the car. I have tried to change it/turn it off but it have not been able to do so. Additionally, the regenerative braking paddle sometimes does not respond in level 3. Dealer was no help with this. In addition, the car makes a creaking noise when cornering or going over bumps. I was told this is a known problem with the Ioniq5. I just had this "fixed" yesterday but on my way home from the dealer I noticed it was not fixed - still creaks. If it is a "known problem" why don't they fix it before they sell it? All in all it is a decent vehicle, just needs some tweaking - enough tweaking and the universe needs to come up with better/universal options for quickly charging EVs.
