Ioniq 5

Overall, drives very nicely. Comfortable inside for the driver and the passenger. The ride is smooth. Handling is predictable and even a little fun. Visibility is excellent. Rear passenger space is excellent. Trunk space is good, but could be better. Driver buttons and interface are well thought out. There are just a few missing pieces that would make it great - more expansive and hands free HDA, a better provider for in car navigation (the maps are dated and incorrect), some refinements to infotainment like the ability to see maps and carplay split screen, dog mode to keep the HVAC running with no one in the car, etc. These are all small and available elsewhere, but they'd make it a 5 star instead of 4.5 star vehicle.

Nice but

Nice ride, good looking, Tesla enabled but...I can't understand how to do the myriad of things available, like how to lock while charging, how to remove errant locations that will not leave, needing two Tesla spaces to charge, how to charge anywhere besides home or Telsa, etc, etc, etc . I realize I am much to fault but I have tried and tried and watched video after video but there are just to many complicated things available that I cannot find and use the most normal things. I thought my Tesla was complicated, but I find this more complicated. My heart is sad. Oh, and the recall. My dealership will not respond to my inquiries to get the recall done. Another Hyundai disappointment,

Ioniq5 Almost Perfect

The Ioniq5 is pleasant to drive with no hard edges, though perhaps it is too safe of a bet for drivers looking for a little more passion from their ride. Range is a standout and makes the car perfect for the family roadtrip. Handling is ultimately secure but does not inspire energetic inputs, as its suspension shows its 2-tons of weight when pushed. A good grocery hauler-though there is no cargo well in the hatch or bag hooks to secure packages. Stowing groceries behind the front seats can create rolling items across the super flat floor. All seats are comfy though the Driver’s could use a bit of side bolstering and low back cushioning for long trips. A power tilt steering column would be nice on top trims like our Limited, to take advantage of the Seat Memory feature.

Probably the most practical EV on the market

For what is paid the IONIQ 5 SEL seems like the most practical. As a matter of fact, it's actually a bit more than I expected, there is however one upgrade I'd highly recommend. This would be a secondary charging port. Meaning one port on each side, thus when a charging port goes bad there's a backup. Also, Tesla chargers charge on the opposite side as it relates to this car. Other than that, many people love this car, and actually have said it's better than the little Teslas. We don't all want a race car, practical is great. Conversely, it's nice there's an N series. My only mistake was not getting a Limited for it's higher towing capacity (had the sale person mentioned that fact, they would have definitely sold me a Limited).

Regen braking issue

Everything is fine but the regenerative brake system is making a clacking noise at low speed as it disengages. Also the interior plastic is splotchy after cleaning.

First 1000 Miles - Impressions

Overall I very much like the handling and features of my 2025 Ioniq 5 SEL. Learning controls and settings takes some effort, but the manuals available are complete. My sole issue at present is with the climate controls / display. These are in a separate touch screen beneath the main screen. With that location, I have to look down to see the setting I want to change, which takes my eyes off the road more than by using the larger main touch screen. Also, the color scheme is blue led on black background. It is very hard to read in sunlight or if there is any reflective glare. I think this should be moved to the main console as a Home Page feature. At minimum, font should be white on black, or black on white for highest possible contrast.

I love this car!

I've written a much longer review on the Ioniq5 sub-reddit, but I'll quickly lay out why I love my 2025 Ioniq 5 2WD Limited. This is my first EV, and aside from letting my battery get stressfully low on a couple of trips, it's been a great experience so far. I installed a Level 2 charger in my garage, and it's so easy and convenient to charge. This car has been a massive leap forward in technology for me. The infotainment center, HUD, cameras, highway driving assist, CarPlay, and app integration are all incredibly well executed. I've also always wanted air conditioned seats and they're amazing. (HUD and A/C seats are Limited and above only) I have minor annoyances that most other Ioniq 5 owners (or lessors in my case) have, such as the regen braking setting not persisting across driving sessions, the forward attention camera complaining when I grip the steering wheel such that my arm blocks it, and the A/C requiring you to set it to level 1-3 instead of just telling it the temp and it handling the force of airflow accordingly, but those are easily overlooked by how great of an experience driving this car every day is. While it'd be nice if an OTA update would help with some QoL adjustments, if those persisted forever I'd be OK with it. I'm pleased with the range, the speed of charging, the handling and comfort, the interior design, the "chunky" and "textured" steering wheel, the physical controls, the roomy interior. I haven't enjoyed using a car this much in many, many years.
