Want to like it, but too many issues.
I really wanted to love my 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited. When it's working properly, it's a fantastic vehicle. It's comfortable, spacious, enjoyable to drive, and has plenty of great technology. Unfortunately, the ownership experience has been overshadowed by an unacceptable number of mechanical and electrical problems.
In less than three years of ownership, I am currently on my fourth 12V battery. The ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) has also been replaced, I've had fuses replaced twice, and I was without the vehicle for an entire week while the air conditioning chiller was replaced.
These aren't minor inconveniences. The repeated 12V battery failures have left the vehicle completely undriveable, creating significant disruptions to my schedule. Between these repairs and routine maintenance, the vehicle has been to the dealership approximately 13 times in less than three years. That's simply unacceptable for a vehicle at this price point.
What makes this particularly frustrating is that I genuinely enjoy driving the Ioniq 5. When everything works, it's easily one of the most enjoyable vehicles I've owned. However, reliability is a major part of the ownership experience, and I shouldn't have to wonder whether my car is going to start or leave me stranded.
I'm giving it three stars because the vehicle itself deserves credit for its design, comfort, performance, and driving experience. Unfortunately, the repeated failures prevent me from rating it any higher.
As much as I like the Ioniq 5, these experiences have completely eliminated any desire to purchase it at the end of my lease or consider another Hyundai EV in the future. A great driving experience means very little if you can't depend on the vehicle to work.
