Do I love it?

Hyundai's safety features are outstanding. Love the technology too. But when it comes to the build, it falls short of other vehicles. For an SUV it is very small in height.

Finding a place to charge the vehicle has been quite a challenge!

We wondered why this vehicle was in the lot for one year unable to be sold….well, we found the problem. Charging in home with a regular charger will take days to reach 100%. It’s not compactible with the tesla charging station cable hence finding an available charging station without costing an arm and a leg has been impossible. It has been very stressful since the battery power goes down significantly during the summer months if the AC is in use and you are driving more than a few miles. I will need to invest in a fast charger in the home in order for this to work for the rest of the lease. I wish this information was given to me prior to purchasing and the car not including a charging cable was a big surprise when the car was delivered to me. Thank God for our car salesman who gifted his own personal standard charging cable to us so that we had something to smile about during the purchase experience. I am hoping that my next electric vehicle is easier to charge and will maintain charge a bit longer.

Simple and reliable

I have had a great experience with this car, which I have driven for a little over a year. Mine is a single-motor top trim car. My previous car was a BMW i3S, which was great too but lacked a liveable range. At times the Ioniq overwhelms me with all its features and high tech stuff. (Just today I tried turning off the head-up display for a change, and found I didn't really need it.) But the ease and convenience of using Apple CarPlay makes directions, phone conversations, music and other features a pleasure. I rarely use the onboard navigation but probably would use it more if the system was more integrated with charging networks and battery pre-conditioning. Last fall I drove the car over 3,000 miles on a road trip through seven states, using public chargers in the Electrify America network. Due to the lease deal I negotiated, which includes charging at EA, the 'fuel cost' of the entire trip added up to $35 and change when I had to use out-of network chargers twice in two weeks. I like that. It is kind of a ho-hum driving experience compared to the BMW, but a smoother ride and greater overall usability make up for that somewhat.

Failed battery

Great car, overall mediocre experience due to software issues

The Ioniq 5 is a great EV: stylish interior and exterior, very quiet and fun to drive. The overall experience, however, is not great due to bad software which borders on the embarrassing at times. So if you want to compare to other EV, I would say that it's average overall.

I like the car a lot, but continue to have difficulty with all of the electronics, especially Apple Car Play and connection to my iPhone. I've reached out to the dealership where I purchased it, but haven't received any help from them.

Love this car!

Enjoy not needing to go to the gas station all the time. Plug it in inside the garage and every morning it’s full. Doesn’t always connect to my iPhone but does 90% of the time.

It's not for everyone

The Iconic5 would be a good choice for a simple commute to and from work, but not for someone like me. I like to drive and often take long road trips of 200 to 500 miles. I realized this after 2 days of ownership and traded the car in for a Sonata Hybrid that has a cruising range of over 500 miles at 41mpg.

My only complaint at this point is the absence of a rear window wiper; which I know was added on the 2025 Ioniq 5. Is it possible to have one added to my 2024?

My Painful Journey

1. The car was sold on 3/16/2024 to me by Jenkins Hyundai on Thorton Road while safety recall notice was in effect. Technically illegal but they didn't care. 2. Bluelink didn't work and salesmen was clueless as to how to fix it. I spent many hours and calls to him with no result. 3. 2nd Key fob was lost at Jenkins and had to wait more than 2 weeks to get it. Jenkins also didn't check tire mobility kit which had exploded in packaging and had to replace it. Again took several emails and calls to get this resolved. 4. I was so disgusted with the lack of interest in Jenkins dealership I opted to contact Potamkin Hyundai in Stone Mountain to do the safety recall as well as software updates that fixed Bluelink. After recall had been completed, car stopped working(4/10/2024) . Car was only 3 1/2 weeks old with 518 miles at that point. Jenkins dealership refused to have it towed to them. New dealership (Potamkin Hyundai Stone Mountain)allowed us to have it towed and discovered drive motor had failed. Took at least a month to get new drive motor (supply issue with Hyundai USA not Potamkin) and other parts and then have it installed. Thankfully Potamkin provided free loaner car. 5. After numerous complaints to Hyundai USA both by me and Potamkin Hyundai, the best Hyundai USA would do was $500. Also offered to buy back car at current bluebook value which was not acceptable given all that had happened and that car was only 3 weeks old. Certainly not what I had hoped for due to the fact that by Federal law the car shouldn't have been sold without the recall being done before leaving lot as well as all the other items listed above. All in all very unpleasant and frustrating experience.
