Solid Car with One Annoying Flaw

The Ioniq 5 does a lot of things right, but my ownership experience has been consistently bothered by one major issue: the rear hatch/door latch noise. There is a recurring creaking, knocking, or rattling sound from the rear of the car, especially when driving over bumps, turning, or on uneven roads. It’s worse in colder weather. In such a quiet EV, this kind of noise becomes very noticeable and frustrating. This may not be a safety issue, but it absolutely affects the perceived build quality. For a car in this price range, I expected better fit and finish. Until this is properly fixed, it takes away from what could otherwise be a great vehicle.

- [ ] things i like - [ ] fast charging - [ ] now works with supercharger network - [ ] looks cool - [ ] comfy ride - [ ] quiet - [ ] sound system okay - [ ] v2l adapter - [ ] HDA lane keep respects lane changes - [ ] back lays flat and fits mattress for camping - [ ] smooth regen, similar to model y - [ ] Radio stays off after CarPlay disconnect (Leaf will switch to radio even if radio was previously off) - [ ] things that could be better - [ ] long range battery - [ ] i-pedal doesn't stay on all time - [ ] and dings with cruise control - [ ] also makes take off slightly bumpy - [ ] HDAlane keep stays on after cruise off - [ ] and a little jerky - [ ] not sure if it's HDA 2 - [ ] frunk too small, although there's space for fast food - [ ] RWD in other markets get deeper frunk, but have to upgrade manually in USA $300 - [ ] sub trunk could be bigger too - [ ] Can't run car play map and internal map simultaneously to compare - [ ] back seats can't be folded from back maybe just SE trim - [ ] nav doesn't know if chargers are online - [ ] Key fob is soft touch plastic and gonna get sticky and gross - [ ] ICCU issues

Comfortable ride, overcomplicated buttons and buggy app interface

We leased our 2024 Ionic 5 and unfortunately the car hasn't lived up to the great reviews. On the positive side, the ride is really comfortable, but there are way to many controls, buttons, screen options - Hyundai has overcomplicated how the car runs. The app is pretty terrible and isn't as good as other EV's. Often times the dash and the app have two different ranges associated with the vehicle. We've had a bunch of headaches trying to use their recommended "fast" chargers when we've been taking long distance trips but they've often not worked or have been slow. We like the car's safety ratings, but won't be leasing or buying another one. We've been really disappointed in the dealership and their service.

Speciality paint treatment (matt) and having to hand wash was, in hindsight, probably a poor choice on my part. Automobile in all other respects exceeds my expectations.

I've had battery issues.

My battery has died twice in the past year and had to be towed to the service center. This has been a real inconvenience and I feel like it is going to happen again because they couldn't figure out what was draining the battery.

The 2024 Ioniq 5 is wonderful!

My 2024 Ioniq 5 is an incredible car! It is a smooth, quiet, and easily operable car. I would certainly buy another one once this one has reached the end of its life. It's also quite zippy. And one of my favorite things is the one pedal driving. I now almost never use the brake pedal.

Better than a Tesla, but still some things to work out

I fell in love with this car as soon as I saw it hit the market. There's a lot that I love about it, but the 12v battery isn't one of them. It drains faster than I thought it would (we left it parked for a 3 day weekend and when we tried to start it again the battery was so dead the doors wouldn't even unlock).

I would have assigned a five-star rating if not for the ICCU.

The vehicle offers commendable performance and an impressive range, complemented by a robust suite of features, with the exception of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. A significant concern, however, pertains to the reported issues with the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) and the 12-volt battery.

The battery cannot handle extreme cold weather. I moved to Michigan a year after I purchased my vehicle in Las Vegas, Nevada. The battery could not handle the cold.

Great car in so many ways, but I do miss my old Audi(s) a little.

The tech makes it a joy to drive. This a spacious, and comfortable car. The interior is nice, but it lacks the refinement of an Audi. All in all, it is a phenomenal value, but I wish the handling was a little better.

Needs a rear windshield wiper. It's dangerous without it. I know they fixed this on the 2025, but I'm still pretty pissed I don't have one on the 2024. Otherwise I'm a fan.

Comfortable Ride worries over ICCU

Wonderful car, super comfortable and easy to drive. ICCU concerns made us turn it in. Also lack of rear wiper. Level 1 charging stopped working early on and dealership was unwilling to give a loaner for “up to 2 to 3 weeks” to fix. So continued with Level 2 charging at home. Loved the car but won't get another until charging issues are resolved

Ionic 5 review

Overall, I love this car. But the absence of a back rear windshield wiper is a big negative. Also, the tires do not handle all that well in snow. Sometimes when the heater is on full blast, there's a blast of cold air - even though the car is plenty warmed up.

Mostly good-to-very-good . My wife and I use our (leased) Ioniq 5 for local driving only. We re-charge with a 110 cord every night. Easy. It developed a tail gate rattle - service took care of that and explained the issue (a known problem) and how to cope. It's too early (only 11K miles ) to be asking me about reliability. .
