Great car with a couple minor flaws. After-sales service dealbreaker.

I was very happy with this car for the first 18 months, then the issues started happening. And I believe they were all small issues but the experience in all 3 dealerships I visited in my area was apalling. First there were the month-long delays to even get service. Then I felt scammed out of my money and mistreated by employees who were unable or unwilling to fix the issues, A faulty 12v battery under warranty took over a month, 4 roadside assistance calls, and 3 visits to a dealership to get replaced. Also, in one of the visits they broke one of the tires and didn't take responsibility so I had to replace all 4 tires at my own expense.

Love owning an EV

I waited for a long time for my Ioniq 5. I mean a loooooong time. I also paid a lot of $$ for it--over sticker. I was not thrilled about doing that but I had made the decision to move from a hybrid to an electric vehicle. I created the environment--home charger and installed solar panels too. So while the shortage is over but I'm still a little annoyed by the dealers "sticking it to me" attitude. I wish they had talked to me about leasing. I think I could have received more rebates if I had leased. The vehicle after a couple of software updates that fixed a charging issue is a wonderful car to drive. My biggest complaint is the lack of rear window wipers. The new ones finally have them and I am thinking about trading in and buying a new one. I haven't seen an EV that I like better than my Ioniq. I would also like to see a different interior color--tan. I hate my black interior and the white is too white. Overall I would buy another Ioniq and I enjoy driving it every day.

Great car, go the ioniq-way

It's a great car, lots of space. The design is what got me hooked initially, but features and specs are what keep me happy. It charges faster than most other vehicles on the market! Being in Florida, having the V2L capability for storms is fantastic!

Everything we needed

Comfortable ride, ease of charging, connectivity with BlueLink, great style. We bought this vehicle new. We have enjoyed several long trips of 400-600 miles, and plenty of city driving. The range is fine, but noticeable drop in cold weather. Most recently in the past month we had failure of the 12-vot battery having sufficient charge, bricking the car. Hyundai replaced the battery at no cost. This has been the only severe working issue with the car is 2 years.

My 2023 Hyundai IONIQ 5 Review

My 2023 Hyundai IONIQ 5 has been a very dependable vehicle. The ride, finishes and quick 0-50 is excellent. The one draw back is the lack of a wiper for the back window. The back window can become very dirty and you must wipe it off by hand.

Love it

Super comfortable. Styling is personal preference. Service can be a little annoying with needing to bring it in for updates but otherwise very low cost of ownership. Public chargers are annoying buy range is good and DC fast charging is a must if you don't have charger at home.

Very fun to drive and a very nice looking car.

Great exterior design. Comfortable interior. Heats and cools quickly. Had an issue with the 12volt battery which went dead without warning and I had to get a jump. Hyundai replaced the battery at their cost. Overall I’m very satisfied with the car and would buy it again.

In the shop for a month and still no date on the part

While the car was running, I have to say I was very happy with the driving conditions and the comfort. Unfortunately, there is a problem with the battery. I’m not exactly sure where their parts come from but they told me it might be three weeks to a month. It’s been well over that and I still don’t know when the part is going to get here.

The car was determined to be a lemon and re-purchased by Hyundai

The air conditioning failed to work at 1700 miles. Despite repeated unsuccessful attempts to fix the problem over the course of eight months, Hyundai refused to accept responsibility for the fact that the car was a lemon. I pursued the matter through the Better Business Bureau Auto Line, and an arbitrator ruled in my favor. It then took Hyundai 4 additional months to fulfill their obligations and repurchase the car.

Could be five stars

Five stars except for 12 volt battery recalls and third party charging. Could be better on software updates. Overall still a very nice car value I’m sure it will be better over time. Electric cars are the future and Hyundai has done great.

This car gives me what I want in an electric vehicle.

Among all the electric cars, this one is the best value. I got everything I needed in an electric car for a modest price. The only two problems I had were: 1: The tailgate made squeaking noises (but the dealer fixed it). 2: The level 2 charging at 48 amps did not work (but the dealer put in a software workaround that allows for charging at lower amps - still not really 48 amps, but at least it doesn't stop dead in its tracks).

Recall victim

I loved my Ionic 5 until a week ago, when it suddenly, and rather dramatically, stopped working while I was driving. It’s the battery recall issue. No warning signs before getting a dashboard message that said “stop vehicle and check power supply.” Thankfully I was in a spot where it was safe to quickly pull over (versus on a bridge or highway!). Of course, a lot of cars have recall issues, but it doesn’t seem like Hyundai is prepared to handle this one. My car has been with the service department since March 26 (8 days ago at this writing) and I still don’t have an ETA on when it will be fixed. Parts on back order, only 2 of 20 technicians at the dealership have the skills required to work on it, I am told. No loaner cars available. Was told to ‘Google’ Hyundai Customer Care to see about getting a rental. Very disappointed. Though I appreciate being reimbursed for the rental and the emergency helpline service was excellent when I called for a tow. I might take this moment to also say it has been very challenging to service this car over the past 2 years. Not every Hyundai dealer will take it, and when they do, they don’t seem knowledge about the car. The industry needs to catch up.

Love how it drives. Love how looks. Very pleased with the dealership Tires are sporty. Handles driving in the mountains easily. Lots of room for 5 people. Backspace is very roomy. All the safety features are wonderful.

Disgusted ioniq 5 owner

My Ioniq 5 has been a colossal disappointment. It has spent 6 of the last 24 months in the shop. The brakes have failed resulting in a collision, the tires have been defective, and 10 minutes after picking up the car after a recall, the battery failed resulting in the car being in the dealership for 2 months.

5 recalls in under 2 years says it all

This car has been recalled 5 times in 2 years. One recall was not successfully carried out and the cars propulsion stopped suddenly while at speed. Unsafe and unacceptable. Rear visibility is poor as no rear washer or rear wiper.

Cheap company

Don’t buy any evs from hyndai, cheap company to deal with , evan their own dealers don’t have facilities to repair it, in my area ,dealer don’t have facilities, so I have to go other places far away from my house

Superlative commuter car for long daily commutes

Super reliable, very quiet, very comfortable car. I commute 72 miles per day. On a full charge the car routinely travels 280+ miles (332 mi best range). Using 80% max charge for battery longevity, I get 3 days of commutes between charges. The cost of at home level 2 charging is well less than half the cost of gasoline for an ICE equivalent commuter car.

Needs a rear windshield wiper an back-up camera cleaner. Self cleaning sensors & cameras would be great.should come with lifetime app, navigation, and remote star-warm-up. No subscription cost. Lifetime wireless updates.

Fantastic Vehicle Experience

This has been a vehicle unlike many others I've driven. It is extremely fast, responsive cornering, smooth riding, very solid and quiet on the road absorbing even poor conditions. This is a vehicle I would recommend.

Great Vehicle when it Works

The look, interior and drive quality of ioniq-5 is on par with all the top EVs but Hyundai s reliability is a big question. My ioniq failed me couple of weeks after leasing. The way Hyundai dealt with the situation was sub par. Please look for more reliable companies for your purchase. Prior to purchase I thought Hyundai was one, but proven wrong.
