Could be a great car

I was really wanting my 2023 I5 Limited to be every bit as great as I had hoped when I purchased it in early 2024, but alas, it just hasn't lived up to my expectations. Don't get me wrong, it is a nice car, with lots of bells and whistles, but the ICCU issue and degraded range just are a deal killer for me. When I first purchased the car in March 2024, the range on the Guess-0-Meter would consistently show 220+ miles at 80% SOC. However, I had my local Hyundai dealership do the BMS update in December 2024, and ever since, I can only get the GOM to show between 150-170 miles at 80% SOC. And when I charge to 100% SOC for long road trips, the GOM shows a total range of only 220 miles, which is well short of the advertised 300+ miles range. I mentioned this to my local Hyundai dealership in Spring '25 and they told me that "it's probably the ICCU and if we bring it in to check it, it will sit here for an unknown time since we can't get replacement ICCUs in from Hyundai." Seriously? I plan to bring it later next month to see if things have changed, but I am not holding my breath. If this range issue could be corrected, I would change my tune on this car since everything else about has been stellar so far.

You're on your own

Software issues. Dealership doesn't want to help. Very disappointed with lack of support from the dealer where I purchased the car. Car applies brake anytime randomly when I'm on the freeway. Dealer refused to help me. That's a scary thing. Don't hope for any support from them if you do buy one. They're all about squeezing you for more.

Driving is fun

This car is extremely fast. Extreme low center or gravity so it hugs the road. I am very tall and there is great interior room. Not having to buy gasoline. Very little maintenance.

We love this car

We love this car. You should be able to lock the door while the door is open so that when you close the door, the car is locked. The pockets above the tail lights collect dirt and moisture even though they are covered by the rear hatch.

I Love this car! With a few exceptions

I love this car. I especially love it when I drive past a gas station! It is so easy, so responsive. Has taken me two years and a smart son to figure out where my cell phone can sit, hands off! The charger does not fit my phone, however, so I just have a longer cord to attach it. The charger seems not to be going over 300 any more, not sure why. But I do Love it.

Good car, but not good for a $50k vehicle

Really like the car, but a few things I would change. * Bluelink. The app is very slow. I don't think I should pay a subscription to access basic features on a $50k car. Please let me provide my own eSIM for the radio that is used for those features, rather than having to use one that you own the contract for. Also, when my car and my phone in the same area, I shouldn't need to ping the internet and wait minutes to unlock the car. My phone should be able to communicate directly with the car via BTLE or something. * Android Auto/Carplay. Please add native Android Automotive, or expose an API similar to Tesla. The built-in infotainment system is, frankly, not good, and too slow to adapt to real world changes like enabled Tesla support. My phone does all of that, but the car does not expose battery % to the phone without having a third party OBD reader. Adding android automotive would solve this, as would simply adding an API to expose battery details and the ability to enable preconditioning to my phone. * Enable precondition button. please. * Would prefer if the OEM lights in the trunk were brighter, but that's a small thing. * This car eats 12v batteries like it's nothing. * The truck tailgate rattle needs to be resolved. * Would like to be able to adjust the look of the cluster without losing view of metrics like miles per kWh. Sport mode is cool but I don't want to see torque. * there are gaps in the panels between my headlamps and bumper. Otherwise, the car is great. Would probably buy an Ioniq 6 in future just because I want a lower car, but I don't regret my purchase.

It’s adequate

Your guide booklet. Writing is so small and hard to figure out. The battery died one year and a bit after buying. Lack of windshield wipers is ridiculous.

Very good except for a few glitches/quality issues

Leased this new for 2 years/24,000 miles. High points are very solid feel (perhaps more so than the the 2015 Mercedes E Class I owned), and very comfortable seats. However, several other issues overshadowed this. It had a vibration in the steering wheel at highway speeds since the day I took delivery. Took it to my local tire shop (dealer is an hour away) to have tire balance checked, and it was fine. To be fair, I never raised the issue to the dealer. Beyond that, the rear hatch rattled incessantly. I took it to the dealer for this issue and they put felt behind the rear license plate, which did nothing. I finally figured out on my own that it was a result of the rubber bumpers on the inside of the liftgate being out of adjustment (they screw in and out to provide the proper clearance). I adjusted them and the rattle went away, but then it would return every few weeks and they needed to be adjusted again. Finally, the infotainment system was often maddening to operate. When the lease expired I switched to a 2026 Tesla Y. It took a few weeks to adjust to it, but it is a far superior vehicle.

Almost perfect

For the most part I have really enjoyed my Ioniq 5. It is so smooth to drive, and that pick-up is WOW! The tech features are top-notch. I get compliments on the car all the time. My biggest complaint is that the dealerships don't know how to service these cars. I have been dealing with an issue for over a year with my vehicle and STILL don't have a resolution. I have been to the dealership no less than 10 times to try and get the problem rectified. I get told so many times, "they never showed us how to fix these cars"

Great Car but disappointed with updates

I love car and it fits our family really well. The cabin size and smooth ride is probably the best selling point. The software in the Ioniq 5 seems to be my biggest disappointment. I’m surprised that features like wireless airplay or CarPlay is gate kept to newer models. I’m also shocked at the lack of software updates and more particularly the features that are not being passed on to older models. It’s disappointing to see social media hyping newer features and then to learn it’s not being added to our car. When I look at competitors like Ford Mach E and see how often they are updating software for all model years not sure the most current it makes me want to switch brands. It’s also disappointing to learn that newer models get lifetime bluelink subscriptions for the first owner but ours will be limited to 3 years. This is kind of annoying to gate keep features like remote start behind a paywall. On that same regard not being able to turn on heated seats or steering wheel on lower models with bluelink is another annoyance.

Excellent Vehicle with some short comings

Pleased with the vehicle in every way but for two technical engineering choices: First the 12V Lead-Acid Battery that lead to a blown ACMU HV fuse during winter drive with front and rear defrost on at night. Service took almost 3 months in the shop to figure out a blown fuse. Discharge characteristics of lead-acid batteries are simply not compatible with EV systems. Replaced battery with $400 Lithium with Bluetooth status. No issues since. The cheap lead-acid battery I am sure has cost Hyundai millions in warranty repairs. Second the lack of rear window wiper. Purchased $500 aftermarket wiper system. Not cheap but important in New England weather. With these corrections to Hyundai Marketing and Engineering choices, it has become an ideal car for my family.
