Fun car to drive, driver’s seat very adaptable, wish range was greater

The Ioniq 5 allows me to drive as though I’m driving a stick shift by my using the one pedal driving ability to control speed and braking as I would use a manual transmission to downshift rather than the brake pedal to slow the car. This gives me good control. It is comfortable and very quiet, and the driver’s seat variability in position accommodates well the significant difference in height between my wife and myself - we each can get a good setting. Its acceleration is phenomenal. I wish the range were more - ours is about 230 miles at most and usually less depending on weather and speed. It does have an annoying creak in the rear hatch that has not been fully fixed despite numerous attempts by Hyundai over the past 2 years. Finally, many strangers come to me in parking lots to find out what kind of car it is because of its distinctive styling.

Best of all cars owned

Over the 60 years of my car ownership, I’ve owned over two dozen cars. My Ioniq 5 is the very best of all of them. To be honest, I usually find myself thinking about what my next vehicle purchase will be almost as soon as I start the latest new car ownership. It’s been over two years now and I have had no thoughts of driving anything else. There’s a real sense of satisfaction for me to sit in the driver’s seat and that continues every time I’m in it.

OK worked great at times and at times not so well.

Overall good car, good mileage with charges. Rides fairly smooth and comfortable enough. However I think I got the car before the kinks and irregularities were worked out. I had some stupid issues with the car and I feel like it could've been worked out if they had more time to fix them properly.

Love this car

There isn’t much I don’t love about this car. It’s responsive, fun to drive and has a lot of safety features built in. It has plenty of storage and the range is great. I still enjoy driving this car after 2.5 years and would easily get it again.

Sport car thrills at less than economy car operating costs

The range is more than I need for day to day driving. I charge it at home about 6 or 7 times a month. It accelerates effortlessly when needed. The maintenance needs are limited to tire rotations. The car is always a pleasure to drive. I also enjoy driving past the crowded gas stations.

Would purchase again, but missing some safety functionality

I’m satisfied with the purchase of this car and intend to keep it long term. The lack of rear windshield wiper is a safety hazard as the rear windows collects dirt, snow, and water from rain, which severely impede visibility. The headrest does not allow for a ponytail so my neck is always tilted forward and this is very uncomfortable during longer drives. It can potentially be very unsafe during an accident as well. The turning radius isn’t great either, which is unfortunate on narrow/crowded city streets. Overall, the vehicle is adequate, but I wouldn’t give it 5 stars. I’m also aware that the interior quality has decreased in the models of subsequent years so I likely would not purchase another car from a later year production.

Mostly great car, incredibly poor support from Hyundai

The car is really fun to drive, has excellent range and has good features. It has had a couple of significant systems problems with charging and the 12V battery, as well as an annoying tailgate rattle. Hyundai has not adequately fixed any of them. National Hyundai customer support delays, ignores, claims no knowledge of widespread problems, and never, ever follows up.

Great car, but with a few minor improvements it would be awesome

If the rear view mirror had the option of being a monitor so that if the luggage area was full and you couldn't see out the rear view mirror, you would be able to see everything via the rear view cameras on the car. It should be compatible with wireless Android Auto and wireless Apple Car Play. The small compartment between the driver's seat and the passenger's seat should be deeper. All of the interior lights should be LED lights, especially in the cargo area. If somehow you could get the range up to 400 miles, that would be a homerun.

Reliable with great safety features

In three years had only one problem. The 12V battery failed which caused the car to be inoperative. The problem was that the 12V battery was allowed to discharge during idle periods and wasn't being recharged automatically. A Software update fixed the problem. The only other issue is that the driving range in cold weather is reduced significantly

Still amazing three years later

I got my Ioniq 5 after trying to find a fully electric car with a decent enough range for day trips. The Ioniq has continued to impress me with its comfort, ease of charging, and mileage.

If I have to have a car, I'm glad it's this one.
