OK for small city trips.

Fun to drive but hard to learn the driver assistance features as the images on the wheel are too small to see in bright sunlight. Too low to drive on the dirt roads leading to my country house. Will trade for a Scout as soon as it is offered for sale. Promised an adapter for Tesla chargers by the end of May, but no action to date.

We liked the car but now it is dead and we are being treated horribly.

The car performed great until May. Then it died right when my son fell on a hike and had broken his back. He had to wait with a broken back until the car got jumped by AAA before he could be taken to the emergency room. Then the local dealer in San Luis Obispo found nothing wrong it (and we had to pay for this failed diagnosis). A few weeks later it died again (main battery failure) and has been at our local San Diego dealer for three weeks and we have no loaner. We are paying for a lease but have no car and are getting no response from Hyundai. Things happen to cars, but this corporate "customer service" is completely unreasonable and highly disappointing. We are incredibly frustrated by what this is costing us. The local dealer says they are trying but "headquarters" is not approving a loaner.

Drives well, but some maddening features

Drivetrain is lovely. Comfortable seating position marred by visibility of large dash through steering wheel forces wheel to be higher than desired. Brake regeneration not remembered after shutdown is an annoyance. Central locking system is absurdly complicated, requiring behavioral changes. Rear hatch lid rattle has required 4 repairs so far. Lumbar bladders deflate in minutes, requiring constant readjustment.

First EV, not ecstatic with vehicle

I'm leasing this car. The vehicle itself is fine, but having to take it to the dealer four times in two years for software updates is a pain since we live 90 minutes from the dealer. It's also worrisome to drive it in the cold because of range anxiety. The deal killer for me is the lack of a back windshield wiper. The back window gets coated with mud, rain, and snow, and I can't see out of it. I backed into a pole that I could not see.

Great car. Reliable and well-appointed.

This is a solid EV in all respects. It performs well, and is very reliable. Very few issues apart from dealer service, which is not as timely as one would hope. Only downside is lack of back window wiper, and minimal space getting into/out of the driver's side of the car.

Still have range anxiety...

I have had my car for 2 1/2 years now, and I still don't take it on long road trips. Especially in the summer, I am concerned that using the A/C and driving long distances with spotty charging sites, will either have me charging at every station and/or my mileage will be significantly reduced.

Good car. Below average service

Car has been great. Folks at dealership have been great. Hyundai has no idea how to provide service for an electric vehicle. "Scheduled service still involves an oil change, and no electric specific services"

One of the best EVs on the market

Our 2023 ioniq 5 SEL it's 2 years old today and we love it. It needs a rear window wiper and that was fixed on the 2025. The ICCU was finally fixed with a software update. Car is comfortable to ride in great acceleration to merge and a very quiet inside the car. The range is good and we have been supplied for free with a Tesla Style plug for charging so that extends the ease of recharging using Tesla charging station on a trip. Our only concern is the current Administration total dislike of EVs and renewable energy.

2023 Ioniq 5 SEL

I purchased the vehicle as certified pre-owned (dealer owned) with less than 700 miles on the odometer. Overall a good EV, but does have a few issues. Wired Apple CarPlay/Andriod Auto frequently cuts out which makes it unusable. Route planning could be much better. DC charging location selection is poor for road trips. Very few OTA software updates to improve user interface. No rear window wiper makes visibility poor especially during winter months. I have a couple of minor build quality issues. On the positive side performance is very good, with a quiet and comfortable ride. Overall the interior comfort is good. Very fast DC charging makes roads trips easier. It’s nice to have V2L capabilities. I appreciate Hyundai providing a Tesla to CCS adapter for DC fast charging.

A seniors delight

Cons the pockets on the right and left in the cargo area are covered over instead of allowing you to put objects in those areas which would be handy. I replaced the modest windshield wipers with Bosch silicone wiper blades. Switching increased my driver satisfaction immensely. I added a. Auto door lock function. Which was not existing on my SEL 2004 ionic five model and I added a camera which recorded forward video which was not on my ionic five 2004 SEL model. I added another level of carpet above the stock carpet, which is difficult to take off and clean so that I could just lift off the second layer of carpet and clean debris more easily than the stock carpet which has an awkward tab arrangement. I had to buy a magnetic disc to hold on my sunglasses because there is no sunglass storage area. I had optional mudflaps on the vehicle which came off when I went over a lip on a driveway and I had to pay $250 to get the cosmetic plastic flap reinserted by the dealer. The requirement that you go to the dealer for frequent tire rotations is an unfortunate but free option that is inconvenient for me because I don’t live near the Dealer. It burns up a day of my time to take it in for tire rotation.
