It's perfect, almost

I love the ride, comfort, speed, and absolute silence of driving this car. It is, as I called it, almost perfect. The lack of redundancy on the ICCU is more than troubling. Having gone through an ICCU failure and now a 12v battery failure, it is probably the one glaring issue I have with the car. When the ICCU fails and inevitably the 12v battery dies you are left with no way to put it in neutral, no blinkers, no lights of any kind, and absolutely no way to engage the drive system even if you're at 100% main battery. The fact that the entire cars computer and all electronics is left to run off of a standard 12v battery and not even an AGM battery is a terrible design in my opinion. Recently, I was at an EV show and had the rear hatch and frunk open to show the details of the car. It was open for about 3 hours. In that time, my 12v battery was drained from lights and other things, and I had to use my jumper pack to be able to start the car. Relying on a lead acid battery to run quite literally everything is a poor choice. Please fix that.

Very happy with our purchase

We love the style, look and feel of the car. We also love the space and interior finishes. Overall, we have had a very good experience with the Ioniq 5 and do not regret not buying a Tesla. The only issues we have had with the vehicle are: 1) the noise attenuation linings in two of the tires separated within the first 15,000 miles which cost us $250 plus to replace one tire because my wife wasn't aware we could simply remove the lining, 2) the salesperson did not tell us about the special care required for the matte finish before we agreed to purchase our vehicle, 3) it is irritating to have to connect to the center USB port near the center floor for Bluetooth, and 4) it is very irritating not having a rear wiper. If not for these issues, we would have rated the vehicle 5 stars.

Perfect after 12v battery issue fixed

It’s been a great car once we replaced the 12 V battery two times and had a number of service trips fix the issue.

Excellent way to reduce carbon emissions and drive like a king

Excellent, attractive design and engineering. I love the love, responsiveness and low maintenance. I would, however, place the turn signal lights on the dash someplace where the steering wheel does not cover them and place the turn signal lights on the outside mirrors so that they can be seen by the driver during the day. Finally, a back window wipe would add value to the car especially for those of us compulsive about clean windows. A better radio would be a plus too.

Great car with only a few things I would change.

I love my Ioniq 5. It has plenty of power and excellent efficiency. In good weather (no A/C or heater) driving around Tucson I regularly get 5 miles per kWh. On road trips with the back seat folded down it is long enough for me to sleep in the back. In Utility Mode I can run the A/C or heater all night long off of the high-voltage battery and only use a few percent of charge. With the Vehicle to Load feature I can power my home refrigerator and a window A/C during power failures for a couple of days. I just wish I had bought the Limited instead of the SEL.

Great car with lots of little issues

Great car, I've had it 2 years and about 20,000 miles (2023 Limited AWD). Customer service is poor. If you make a perfect car, then maybe you can get away with subpar customer service, but this car is not perfect. It's always little things that each in themselves do not really bother much, but added up the experience is not great. One time they overinflated my tires. One time they forgot to reset the service indicator and told me to come in to the shop again so they could reset it. There have been several recalls related to the ICCU and no apparent fix from Hyundai yet, so I live in fear that my car could die at any moment. The main feature/function of any car is to provide reliable transport, so this car arguably struggles with meeting that basic requirement. The 12V battery died on me after just 18 months, I replaced it on my own since it happened on Christmas Eve. It was only after 5 months of back and forth with Hyundai Customer Service did they reimburse me as the battery was covered under warranty and I replaced it myself (I actually saved Hyundai money since they would have paid for the battery and the labor had I gone to their shop). The features of the car are great though. I love the styling. I love the fast charging (240 kW is the most I've gotten). Hyundai gave me a free NACS adapter since my car has CCS and NACS appears to have won the 'format war.' The car drives really smoothly although there are lots of rattles/creaks/squeaks in the cabin for a car that is only 2 years old. The V2L is a nice feature although I rarely use it. Overall a pretty good car.

like the quite, it is quick even with out using the sport mode. the electronic/computer add on funtions are mostly useful. Not that happy with the dash screens, i think they were not well thought out.

A spacious, smart vehicle with upscale feel

The Ioniq 5 was a clear step up from my previous vehicle, a 2015 Hyundai Elantra sedan. Exterior dimensions were very wide, wasn't sure if I could get it into my garage but eventually manoeuvred it by folding the side mirrors with a button push (my SEL model has this but the SE does not). The turning circle is wide, so getting around in narrow spaces can be tricky. The interior space is generous and the centre console is very useful for storing items like handbags for example. Ride is smooth and quiet as one would expect from an EV. Energy efficiency was impressive (over 6 miles/kWh is my record) for urban driving with max regen. I appreciate how Hyundai has kept enough physical controls to make the car feel intuitive to drive, such as separate stalks for the wipers and indicators, and physical climate control and trunk / hood buttons. Also, the ability to control regeneration manually sets Hyundai apart for me vs other EV options. The only thing I would say needs improvement are the two features lacking in 2022-2024 models but which were addressed for the 2025 model year. These are the rear windshield wiper and wireless Android Auto. Although good to have, neither of these are deal breakers for me.

12v system problematic

We love the car overall, but it makes me nervous due to the 12v system. I'm a little afraid because it has failed 2 times. The first time they replaced the 12v battery. The second time they replaced the ICCU control module. The ICCU was on back order for 5 weeks. Other than that it has been good. It does one thing that is strange. It has cooling vents under the front bumper. Whenever they need to open they cycle twice. When they close,they just close. Every time that they open they open then they close right away and then they open again. Doesn't seem right at all. It going to wear it out twice as fast

Love My Ionic 5: US needs mor fast changing stations

I love my Ionic 5. Great performance, trunk space, comfort. My only issue is twice I’ve panicked when I feared I would be stranded with no charge. One of the two times I found a charging station and discovered it had been vandalized. I would like more of the high end safety features on my wife’s Santa Fe Calligraphy.

ICCU issues and software are inexcusable

The car is great to drive but a pain to deal with the software. The ICCU issues make it extremely unreliable and Hyundai refuses to fix the problem
