Overall enjoyable but this year model hit a couple glitches
Have had 5 Sonatas now over the last 12 years or so and always just wanted to get another. This time that might change. Two major issues: electric parking brake sets with no apparent rationale. Would say it always sets on hills as it should, but also more often than not, but not consistently, sets itself on completely flat surfaces like inside my garage and in very flat parking lots. Not always, but frequently and enough to annoy me when I begin to hit the gas and the car sticks where it is. There has also been, from day one, a noticeable lag in acceleration from what I would describe as a 98% stop. The California stop as I have heard it called. Yes, it’s not technically legal and I should probably not do it, but if I do (and I do sometimes) I shouldn’t have to panic when it bogs down and reacts slowly when I’m trying to pull out in high traffic and need the get up and go to get up and go. I did inquire with service right away and they said there was nothing that could be done. The third annoyance is the over sensitivity of the back up collision avoidance. I don’t want to turn it off and regret it, but on a number of occasions I can visually see the car has passed behind me in a parking lot and it’s probably20-30 feet passed and it slams on the brake and scares the crap out of me. “Did I just almost hit someone?” Nope, nothing else there. It was just the long since car leaving the area. On a lesser level I have always wondered why you don’t make the garment hook in the back a little deeper/wider to be able to accommodate a plastic hanger easily. I generally use metal hangers but they are a little beefier and you kind of have to get just the right angle or it falls off.
