overall it's a nice car but has a few annoying quirks.

it's a nice car, very comfortable and good for long trips with great gas mileage and range and good safety features sometimes it has incredible acceleration and sometimes it struggles to accelerate and I find that incredibly frustrating. I also don't like how the dashboard lights go out for no apparent reason so you can't see anything.

Transmission and or engine issues

Often locks up and will not smoothly accelerate from a stop. Strange noises intermittent coming from rear. Acceleration feels like struggling against brakes or something.

Reliable but quirky

The essential functions of the vehicle operate predictably and reliably. Upshifting in the lower gears is rough, especially before the vehicle has reached normal operating temperature. Mileage is excellent and has averaged 51+ MPG after nearly 40K miles. The operator interface is deficient. Examples include: 1) an unexpected switch from English to Korean language on the displays that required manual intervention to correct. 2) display illumination intermittently shuts off and has to be manually restored. 3) several portions of the displays are unreadable in high ambient light conditions 4) an unwarranted warning to re-engage the 24 volt system repeatedly appears despite a recall to correct the problem. 5) the supplied manuals are almost useless. The index is grossly incomplete. Diagrams Illustrating the hierarchy of menu functions would simplify finding things. 6) the map doesn't allow zooming out far enough to gain an overview. 7) updating the map software is impossible on-line and the hard copy update never seems to be available. 8) touching the map to pan creates a waypoint that can't be removed by any method I've found, except starting over. I could go on but the point is made that these systems seriously need work. The driver lumbar support is inadequate. It doesn't provide enough support. The passenger seat lacks lumbar support. Interior road noise is noticeable. When low beam headlights are used in rural areas, there is an abrupt vertical change in brightness that impairs visibility. When the engine is shut off, the driver's seat goes to the full back position. The operator should be able to disable this because it seriously limits rear passenger legroom and could cause injury.

Great vehicle Terrible software

I have had my Sonata Hybrid Limited for 2.5 years now, and the vehicle itself is a joy to drive. It handles well, has excellent mileage, is solidly built, and has had no problems. But the software is so bad that it makes me consider another vehicle once the lease is up. The basic problem is that user settings are often ignored. At random times the software does a partial reset, which turns off the climate control system, turns the instrument panel lighting to the lowest setting, and changes the central screen to the factory default. The software will not leave my previous screen up after the vehicle is turned off, making me have to find it again with presses on the touch screen that don't always work, especially in the winter. The features that require navigating through the menus in the infotainment system are difficult to find and certainly dangerous to use while driving. It is very difficult to activate features at times, because if you don't push down exactly right, you end up moving the screen instead of activating the feature. There are not enough physical dials and buttons. The app is infuriating. It is a little better in authenticating, now that it uses fingerprint recognition. But it still often fails to authenticate at the time you need it the most (such as when it's 10 below zero outside and you want to remote start your car). And the "stupid" screen that comes up when the car is started is most infuriating. It does not allow any other features to be used until you either confirm that you read it or wait 30 seconds to let it go away on its own. Some stupid administrator was convinced by a stupid and incompetent lawyer that they need this screen that tells you not to look at it while driving for liability reasons. That is totally false. Such devices never hold up in court. A one-time acknowledgement is just as effective legally. But we have to see the "stupid" screen every time we turn the car on. I get road rage before I start driving!

Feature rich commuter car as reasonable price

The Hybrid Sonata has been everything I expected it to be. I did not want a sports car and I didn't want to pay for a luxury vehicle. It has been a great balance of features and price. Cross shopping between a Camry, Accord and K5 in 2022, I had found this was everything I needed with a hybrid powertrain. The others offered Hybrids but with turbos, the NA ICE with Hybrid in the Sonata was more appealing to me. Speaking of that powertrain, it gets great range and MPGs. At times the electric motor and ICE feels clunky and not the smoothest. The transmission can feel like it's straining itself and not finding the right gearing, requiring me to use the paddle shifters. The tires that have come with the sedan are not the best in my opinion. They often slip with a heavy accelerator application, and very commonly if there is any water on the ground. I would have loved if this powertrain had 4wd to help it out. Regardless the vehicle has done great as a commuter car, saving me money and being comfortable enough for day to day use. I intentionally chose the limited trim for every feature it offered. The heated/ventilated seats, panaramic roof, physical hvac controls, HUD, Active cruise control features, and the Smart Park (love that, and very handy when I need it). I think the interior is almost perfect. I know the recent model update addressed some stuff, but I loathe the button gear selector. I would have much preferred the stalk version in the latest ones, and I would prefer a lever over anything. The second knock on the interior is I wish the steering wheel came out farther (I'm 6'1") and the seat went lower. Lastly, if it had auto folding mirrors this would be a perfect car. Regardless I am very happy with the Hybrid Sonata and don't regret my choice I made at the time when I was shopping. Lastly, my Hampton Gray paint chipped very easily, and it got damaged very fast within the first months of ownership.

Pretty solid car.

Good for a basic entry to hybrid

The positive- great gas mileage. Info system is nice. Negative - no rear cup holders, engine has had issues with coolant required a 6 week wait for parts.
