This is my 5th Santa Fe dating back to the original in 2001.
My 2014 Santa Fe when traded in had 184,000 miles. It was in perfect condition. Transmission started to slip. IN fact, I have had nearly all of them, and a 2007 Tuscon with 175,000 miles. Unfortunately, I do not believe my 2023 Santa Fe will come close to that record.
I have the Turbo version (Limited). Acceleration is very choppy and sometimes inconsistent. I am not sure if the transmission isn't synced or what else happens. The engine has plenty of power once I get past the initial acceleration from a dead stop.
I am definitely not a fan of push button gear shifting. In fact, my loyalty to the brand is the only reason I came back. I nearly went elsewhere because of this item.
The entertainment system is good, however, in the 2023 Limited, Apple Carplay still needs to be plugged in. My sister has the 2022 Tuscon, one step down from the limited, and she has wireless Carplay.
I miss the active head rests in the front seats. The one in the 2023 is fixed just a bit too far forward for my comfort.
Things I like:
I love the sound system, and all of the dashboard displays. I like the cooled seats, and heated steering wheel.
As for the seat position buttons, I would like it better if the key fob was addressable, so that whomever is opening the car, the seat would recognize the position for that driver.
Some technical items:
1. When I first received the car and I was playing with the buttons, I noticed that the rear seats had electric fold down releases from the rear compartment. The drivers side release did not work. Me, being an engineer, diagnosed the problem myself. The plug was not plugged into the receptacle beneath the seat. Poor quality control.
2. This past winter I was experiencing no heat in the cabin. The temp gauge was not even registering. This usually happened when the outdoor air temp was below 40 deg. f. I brought it to Hyundai and all they did was flush the system, which I explained was not the issue. 2 days later the same thing happened when outdoor air went below 40. I brought it back again and they had it all day, never looked at it waiting to see if there was a technical bulletin. On the 3rd visit, they finally changed the temp sensor which was apparently identified on a TB which I had suggested on the 1st visit. On these visits they were to also diagnose an extremely annoying squeaking sound coming from the rear compartment.
4. The squeak at the rear compartment was not addressed by the technicians at the dealership. Unfortunately the squeak would only occur while driving. Finally, after several times of checking myself, I found the nut holding on the rear spoiler on the rear hatch had come off. I removed a rubber grommet/cap to find a screw without a nut on the passenger side of the hatch. Being diligent, I check the drivers side as well. Not only was rubber grommet/cap missing, the nut could be loosened by hand. Again, poor quality control.
5. I now have about 45,000 miles on this, and am starting to hear a subtle rattle coming from my front end. Nothing terrible. I have not brought it in for a check yet, as each time I do, I lose the car for a day, and have to Uber around as i need the car for work.
6. The rear passenger door does not unlock sometimes from the inside. Even with the child proof setting in the off position. (Another issue is that where the child proof lockout is on the armrest is in a bad location. I always accidentally depress it with my arm as I rest in on the armrest.)
7. The alignment on the hood is slightly off. Again, not a real problem, but just not expected considering my experience with Hyundai products all of these years.
