Great vehicle for anyone needing a small truck every once in a while.

Maintenance Schedule???

This truck is an exceptional vehicle. A little short on utility because the bed is so small, but big on comfort and electronic capability. There is one annoying detractor: The Maintenance Schedule. The vehicle maintenance minder says one thing about routine maintenance, the owners manual says something else and the dealer has yet a third opinion about maintenance. Twice I have made appointments for oil change/tire rotation only to be told by the dealer that it is not yet due. Get your act together, Hyundai.

Just What I Wanted

When I found that my Forester did not work well for some of the hauling that I wanted to do, I looked around for a small pickup, doing my on-line research first, then test driving. The Santa Cruz, while being a little more expensive than some, had the overall best package of features and fully-thought-through fine points (like the interior of the bed area). Having the all-digital dashboard and the outstanding performance gives a nice combination of luxury and utility. On a recent 3-week, 6,600-mile road trip, the GPS navigation system twice took me around problems that were up ahead but not yet visible at the time that it alerted me. While crossing the Nevada desert, where the speed limit is 80mph, the 2.5L turbo engine cruised easily while still giving me plenty of remaining acceleration (I don't like driving next to 18-wheelers for any extended time!), and had no problems with the Appalachians, the Rockies, or the Sierra Nevada mountains; depending on the terrain and speed (a major factor in aerodynamic drag), I also got over 28mpg on some legs of my road-trip, all on regular gas. And the combination of acceleration, braking, and superb handling characteristics makes me feel very safe with regard to being able to deal with those unexpected events that tend to crop up (see Mega Driving School for sample videos). Overall, I am completely happy with my choice.

I would rate it 10/10 if the truck bed were 6 inches longer and the back seats were more comfortable. It drives smoothly, with no engine problems. Everyone I know loves this car. Great job!

Hyundai Santa Cruz

Overall, a good truck. MPG pretty good, but not as good as Maverick. Rear shocks needed replacing after one year. In year two I think they are going to need to be replaced again. Only have 15,300 miles on the truck. I wish it had a trip odometer like the 2018 Buick Encore (trip A & trip B). I wish it had driver side auto window down. I really like the Blue Stone color. I wish it had a USB port in the backseat area.

Rear Suspension

Fun to drive

I have a few complaints but the positive far out weighs the negative. Using a car wash, the rear tail lights get condensation. Took it to the dealer and there is an acceptable amount of moisture allowed....I dont agree. If the vehicle gets frost on it the forward camera gets a fault that shows up on my display. I discovered that even after defrosting the windshield, there will still be moisture in the top center of the windshield and I assume thats where the camera is. By the time I drive home from work(25 minutes) the moisture is gone and the fault goes away. The engine is very responsive, it handles great and I love to drive it. I have hauled more than I thought I could with this mini truck.
