It was a Great Car until it Wasn't
I was very happy with my purchase until October 23, 2025. On that morning, I pulled into a parking space that faced a cement retaining wall. My foot was on the brake, and I was reaching to put the car into Park, when the car suddenly lurched itself forward into the cement retaining wall. There was no Collision Avoidance activated (a safety feature I had thought was good to have on a car). $22,000 in damage later, my insurance company totaled the car. I had had the car 8 months; it had 6374 miles on it. I did report this incident directly to Hyundai Motors. There was a case manager assigned. Two weeks after my report, they decided they wanted to inspect the vehicle. Unfortunately, I had had to sign the car over to the insurance company in order to get the insurance payout to get a different vehicle. (This was my only vehicle.) I then received a letter telling me it was my fault they couldn't inspect the vehicle and they were closing the claim. I replied and told them I thought this was fairly disingenuous. If they had acted more quickly, I would have tried to hold off on signing the title, so the car could be inspected. Lesson learned - big companies really don't care all that much. In the months since, I have heard of other issues with these cars lurching unexpectedly. I tried to do the right thing.
