Awesome! Except oil overconsumption issue

I bought my car in March 2020 (as a 2nd owner). Car has great gas mileage, and I've enjoyed driving it. It has been reliable. However, the 2017 Hyundai Sonata has oil overconsumption problems. I've done online research (Reddit and other forums), and this year/make/model does appear to consistently have oil overconsumption problems (due to how Hyundai has manufactured the engine). For 5 years I have gotten by by topping off the oil in-between oil changes (every 5,000 miles). However, because of the oil overconsumption, there will be carbon deposits throughout the engine and exhaust path (the combustion chamber and catalytic converter). Good car otherwise, but I would say after 100,000 miles, this problem will arise. I am at 135,000 right now, and will need to sell the vehicle (this car will not pass smog because of the Hyundai engine).

One of the most reliable and best overall cars I've had (and I've had a few). Very comfortable sedan with very well designed controls and safety features. Navigation system is great! Love it.... had it seven years, still runs like new, will keep it as long as it runs well.

Solidly reliable

I'm blown away by the continued reliability and fuel economy that I continue to have driving this vehicle. It's a comfortable long trip car, and on my last road trip the fuel economy indicator reached as high as 42.4 miles per gallon (and it's not a hybrid).

Paint chipping. You won’t even fix their problem. Don’t buy Hyundai. They suck. They were faithful Hyundai buyers. Sad when you have to pay for their mistakes and knew about the problems. Did not notify their customers.

Would not fix their problem. Paint was chipping. They fixed the problem themselves. Poor customer service. Daughter of Fred & Diane Ostrander. Don’t buy Hyundais Don’t take care of customers. Garvey sucks.

Great transport!!

Got a great deal on my car. It's reliable, gets me from A to B, seems to be a solid vehicle. My car gets awesome gas mileage, especially given the facts that it is a midsize car and that it is not a hybrid. My only "complaints" are that it's very "vanilla," and that I've never liked the shift points on the automatic transmission, especially since I run it in ECO mode - it seems to hold the lower gears way longer than expected, although I've been assured on multiple occasions that it is typical and normal. Overall, I'm quite satisfied and it's been a terrific vehicle!

Not reliable

Hyundai has no customer service. Once you take it to an independent dealer for repair there's noone holding the dealer accountable for repairs. They still haven't fixed my car as it is worse now than when I took it in originally.

Great car, terrible paint

Great car in areas of performance and comfort. Could be a little more quiet driving. Paint is terrible. First started peeling on the roof, they fixed that. Now it is peeling on hood and of course out of warranty. The bodyshop guy told me they all have this issue. Said he had to repair his wife's car out of warranty. Service department at my local dealer is terrible. Recommend checking reviews of service before buying.

Great car

I drive a lot of miles. Great car, good mileage, very dependable. This is the second Hyundai I have owned. Great cars, but dealership service departments need a lot of work. Strongly recommended checking the reviews of service departments before buying.

My 2017 Sonata

This car has been a good car for commuting. It has been good on MPG and ease of driving. I have had some paint peel problems (all covered & repaired), and my only complaint would be road noise is loud

Service, performance and physical appearance

Oil light keeps coming on. I was told by my mechanic that the oil sensor is bad and it needs to be change. The paint on the front top of the car is chipped automatically. It was never hit. The paint job must have been substandard.

Nice car

Love my vehicle as it provides transportation to and from safely. Economic and easy to maintain. Does require some oe filters. Overall a fun car very enjoyable to drive around, stylish and at times sporty.

2017 Hyundai Sonata Limited

Cheap factory paint job. Paint started peeling after 1year of having my vehicle, which was purchased practically new. Great features and car runs great otherwise. Issues with trunk latch. Unable to open my trunk. Found out there was a recall concerning the issue. Really disappointed in the paint job. Now I am forced to pay over $1,500 in order to correct the paint issue.

Great car

Second Sanata I've owned and great cars. Both have and currently are dependable cars with excellent handling and ride. First Sonata was totalled in an accident with no injuries.would not hesitate to buy another.

I purchased it used in 2019. So far, only had problem with electrical door mirror that was covered under warranty.

I purchased it used in 2019. Only needed electrical door mirror corrected; it was covered under warranty. So far, no major maintenance required. I am disappointed about the extremely high cost to replace the roof shark fin that seemingly came off going thru a car wash. The fin couldn't be found. Hyundai's cost is appx., $800 because I was informed they would not to remove the inside roof of the car to replace it due to the wiring of the radio/tape system. However, the wiring is intack. i can't understand if I purchased a fin for $40, why they couldn't at least glue/secure it for $100 - $150 which is better than $800.

Wish I would have. Bought it from Hyundai of New Port Richey. Thank place was non Hyundai and think we got squeezed on it. It is a powerful car with a huge interior.. it is stylish and turns heads.

The Hyundai Sonata Sport 2017

I was surprised to see the new vehicle window sticker that said that would get 30 MPG city and 40 Mpg highway. When we drive it in warmer, not cold we really do get those MPG's. On eco mode which is where I always have it, running at the Legal speed limits I have gotten as high as 42.8 MPG Highway which is fabulous for a 4 door car of that size !

Best Car in Town!

Love this vehicle it’s fast, nice body kit, and I believe the last style before they came out with robotic cars. I will probably never trade this car in and ride it out until I can’t anymore. So yes buy a Hyundai!

Excellent Vehicle

I’ve enjoyed my 2017 Sonata Sport vehicle over the past four years. It has never failed me with any major service calls. Smooth ride, Excellent Stereo Sound System, choice of Drive Speeds; Normal or Overdrive. The overdrive will stiffen the steering wheel providing you with the control needed for a safer and enjoyable ride. Hold on as it moves. Have fun
