Great family car w/ room for improvement

I love the size of the vehicle, the reclining seats in all three rows, the accent lighting, and the parking cameras. However, we've experienced a couple of major issues that have made me dislike the vehicle and wish I had chosen something else. The first issue is the touchscreen. We live in upstate New York, and during the winter the touchscreen doesn't work at all when it's cold outside. That means we can't use the seat warmers, heated steering wheel, defrost controls, or other climate settings until the screen starts responding, which can be a long wait. It's extremely frustrating, especially on cold mornings when those features are most needed. The second, and much bigger, issue is the power-folding buttons for the second-row seats. When my daughter climbs in and out of the vehicle, she accidentally bumps the button, causing the seat to start folding. It has nearly knocked her to the ground while she was getting out. Even more concerning, one time she accidentally pressed the button while my 4-year-old niece was still buckled into her booster seat in the second row. The seat immediately began folding with her still strapped in. She was screaming, and we couldn't get the seat to stop folding. Fortunately, I was able to get her out in time, but it was a very frightening experience. I consider this a serious safety concern. I previously owned a Volvo with power-folding seats, like this car, the seats move slowly vs. a quick release button, which would be faster and safety, and more dependable. I still can't get the seats to work properly when I push the button, sometimes the seats leans back and I struggle to get it in the position I need to get to the back row. In comparison, I actually prefer the third-row seats in this vehicle because they recline and fold in a way that gives me more control rather than relying on an electric motor.

I love my Santa Fe

I love so many things about the Santa Fe. The technology, the looks, the interior, the height above the ground. The only thing I do not like is the lack of power.

Good utilitarian vehicle

Like the interior design. Nice dashboard design. Much more space than previous Santa Fe. Nice to have third row seating. Good gas mileage for htrac version. Exterior design very boxy, but I bought on its utilitarian value. Don't like that the rpm goes to zero at a traffic light, but I think the EPA is to blame for that. Sucks that I have a one second delay when the light turns green. Should have come with a rear hitch.

good and bad

Good, comfortable, reasonable MPG and looks. Bad, Tires, need replaced @ 18,000 miles. control panel hard to use in bright daylight, Car Transmission is very very loose. Complained @ the dealer (Jenkins) was told it was normal. (put in park and will still move, when you take foot off of the brake). Don't believe the dealer wants to fix!! Finally, Step on the gas and (at times) and no go or motor race's.

Love to drive it!

Comfortable car, easy to drive but I am still learning to use all of the tech. I am 81 and challenged technology. Th 3rd Rowe of seats is a waste of space I have never used them. I would rather had more leg room in 2nd Rowe & storage area. It would be nice if after you drive the car you would have a tutorial on the technology. Invite new owners up for a Q & A session. Have coffee & treats. I know I would drive the 80 miles. Try it, you might sell a few few more cars.

Car sucks

This car has been in the shop 8 times for The same exact thing plus other things within the first year and Hyundai refuses to buy it back!! It is junk!

The vehicle doesn't go backwards up a small hill at a reasonable speed. It's 0 or too fast. I would guess the removal of the tourqe converter required a lower reverse gear that didn't happen on my model. My tires wore out in 9000 miles. I'm old and don't drive fast. I'm sure you could check. Dealer said they can't do anything but charge me full price for new tires. Having brake noise after not driving it for a couple hours in reverse only. And only a couple seconds. Dealership said the brakes are wearing unevenly and wanted to change my to clean and grease the caliper slide pins. It's just barely over a year old with 9000 miles on it. Even though I paid for the extended warranty! I guess the brakes are just as good as the tires are! At the time of sale I probably could have been upsold on the remote start having control over the climate control. And roof bars and hitch with wire harness as they are good deals at the time of sale. It would have been money better spent then the extended warranty. Not a fan of the privacy invasion. It never seemed like my phone was listening to me unless I was in this car. It's nice the newer ones have dash cameras. Wish mine came with one. The incentive that got us in the door was only for a really bad interest rate. Should have walked out then. My last vehicle was a 2009 sonata. Never had much of a problem with it for the 16 years I drove it. Maybe you didn't cheap out on the important stuff. Time will tell.

Love the vehicle.

The Santa Fe is a great vehicle. I like the way it drives and the functionality of it. It is roomy and comfortable. A few things I would add are factory drive cameras in the front and rear. Change for extra cloud storage. Also add a windshield heater down the drivers side for ice a snow buildup. Then add a built in fluid level gages and service chart in the computer system for owners.

Great but could be better

I have had this vehicle for just over a year. Besides 3 recalls, the only issue I had was a dead battery twice during winter. I would expect the cold not to drain a new battery. I got the matte paint but would not recommend it as it requires a lot more care. The interior is fantastic and levels beyond Honda but some small things were overlooked that wills have made the interior perfect.
