We Love Our Car

Our Ioniq 6 is fun and sporty and turns heads in the parking lot. A neighbor who has a Tesla likes the features and styling on our Ioniq 6 better. We have had no performance issues after 8000 miles. We are using the car primarily for local and regional driving. Our friends who are interested in an electric car have test driven it and have been very impressed.

Great car with a million problems

I love driving this car - when I'm able to drive it. I've had it for a year and a half and it's been in repairs for about 2 months out of that year and a half. At one point, the car completely died on me while driving on the freeway. Not from lack of charging - it was an issue with the engine.

hard to drive when the key fob doesn't work; fun when it does

I have been really happy for almost 6 months with this car, up until the point I walked out one morning and the doors wouldn't open. It took 24+ hours and 5 tow trucks to get the car to the correct dealership (the tale rivals the Odyssey) and then it will be at least one more week until the dealership gets the replacement module, can install it, test it, and then presumably return it to me. And now I will forever be wondering when it will happen again. But other than that, it's been great fun. Easy to charge, great handling, very comfortable, excellent interior. But that key fob business is a real bummer.

Great EV for daily work commute.

I really like the Ioniq. I feel like a got a pretty decent deal considering the rebates-- right time, right place for sure. That said, there are some things that I feel should be standard on a vehicle of this price/technology. The lack of some the basics is a little disappointing and seem disconnected. There is inteior lighting that changes colors, but no memory settings for the driver seat or auto-sensing rain setting. I did only buy it with the intent to save on gas for daily work commuter, but you pay this much for a car and you would think somethings would just be standard technology--not a deal breaker, but the little things you notice after you start enjoying the idea of a new vehicle.

Salesman Didn't Know The Caar

The car is fine, just a little quirky. Not used to the controls yet-not really intuitive. Salesman didn't try to find out what was important to me, and I feel like I bought a car not suited to me.

Not what I was expecting

Even though it has so many good things the bad things are passing them making me have this rating, the main bad things are the mileage range, the sensors and misfires that almost cause an accident, I have reported this but they just said that it doesn't make sense, plus a couple more things that actually made me expend more than normal on the car.

Great design in the underrated small efficient EV market

In the ever dwindling US market for sedans, an incredibly efficient design for a battery-electric vehicle. Sadly all but pulled from the US market in coming model years, and with little competition to fill in the gap, as US consumers are sold on ever larger SUV and crossover inefficient tanks (more dangerous to pedestrians, traffic, and infrastructure) whether they need it or not. From the aerodynamic sloped hood and trunk and the smaller aero rims on the long range SE trim for highway efficiency, to the great efficiency in street driving via regenerative braking, it's in small company especially in its price point for 300+ mile range small electric vehicles, though it still carries a price premium for the battery. The software works well for climate control, navigation, safety features, and charging; its 800V battery architecture means that you can get extremely fast charges on the increasingly more prevalent hyperchargers being built all over. But it lacks the ability of newer Ioniq models to enable battery preconditioning manually for fast charging in cold weather, requiring a frustrating dance to convince the car you will be driving to a fast charger its navigation system may or may not know about, and it can't be done at all while navigating with another system like Android Auto. Hyundai Pay works on a few important charging networks and is useful to consolidate the number of charging apps you need to use, maybe more to come. But there doesn't seem to be plug and charge support for this model as the newer Ioniqs have, though the car's menus do list an ID that may indicate future support. The CCS1 charging port on this model means you need a NACS adapter to use most Tesla superchargers, or (with a different cheaper adapter) Tesla destination chargers; there may be more NACS-only chargers built at some point in the future, but at least for now, new chargers are still being built with plenty of CCS1 plugs, and many of the new Tesla superchargers have "magic dock", essentially a built-in CCS1 adapter, so with good planning and consulting PlugShare you can easily go most anywhere without any adapters. The highway driving assist works well to keep the car in its lane on the highway, but feels jerky and clunky, like the car is too sensitive to the adjustments it makes, particularly when keeping speed without a car in front; don't know whether it's better with HDA2 on higher trims. Trunk space is sufficient for my needs, but smaller than most competition. The frunk is rather tiny and only suitable for small items that can get thrown around as there's no way to secure them. Cupholder and center console space is quite nice though an odd arrangement to get used to, and similarly odd are the front window and door lock switches which are in the center console instead of on the doors. The long-range SE trim has nice and comfortable cloth seats, which I prefer to the higher trim leatherette. Basic Bluelink features including navigation (as needed to enable battery preconditioning) are included for free in this model; purchased new from the dealer, it comes with a free Bluelink advanced subscription for the life of the car for the first owner, other than OTA updates (which you can pay for after the free 3 years, or do manual updates with a USB flash drive). Bluelink advanced features aren't strictly necessary for the driving experience, but quite convenient to be able to monitor and manage the car from the app.

If Hyundai were to update the 12 volt battery to a lithium battery as Tesla did, and improve the quality of interior materials, my ratings would jump significantly. Its too bad the 2026 Ioniq 6 is not coming to the U.S.
