Nice Exterior, Ugly interior design

I traded in my lovely Kia Sorento 2025 with leather seats and panoramic sunroof for the basic Ionic 5 Standard Range. The change is drastic, but the "fuel savings" really made it worth it. I really like the Ionic’s exterior design, since it looks like a hatchback from the ’80s or ’90s, However, the interior is really ugly; there’s a lot of plastic on the door panels, and fingerprints show up easily, making it look dirty or greasy. You have to be constantly cleaning it. The center console is horrible; I’ve never seen anything so ugly, and that’s even though they improved it compared to the 2024 model. The spot where you’re supposed to charge your phone is basically unusable because when the sun’s rays hit the phone, it overheats and shuts down, so I have to remove it from there and hide it somewhere else where the sun doesn’t hit it directly. that center console is a joke—who was the genius who designed it? There isn’t enough space to store things—just a small tray with a lid that barely fits my wallet and car keys. Everything else I have to practically throw into the bottom section, which is completely open. All of this is a problem because it leaves my personal items exposed and unprotected when I leave the car at valet parking or when it’s in for service. The glove box doesn’t have a lock either. The base model doesn’t have a wireless cell phone charging option, nor does it have air conditioning vents in the rear seats. I got $3000 rebate, Zero down payment and 0% APR x 72 month (with tier 1 credit) but the dealer under valued my Kia (of course) paying $634 monthly. I financed around $45k (too much for this) and with just 200 miles I got an estimate from Carvana for just $25,000, so I am loosing $20k immediately. "But I am saving GAS" hahaha.

Solid, spacious, and quiet

I've been driving pure electric vehicles since 2012. I've seen the full gamut of EVs over the years. I've seen ranges go from 65 miles to over 300. It's as amazing as the improvement we see in computing performance. My phone has as much power, RAM, and storage as a top-end laptop from only 5 years ago. That's how I feel about the Ioniq 5. It feels like the future. It's quick, quiet, comfortable, spacious, and surprisingly inexpensive. It's the future we were promised for EVs.

Great first EV

We’re only 3 months in, but my family and I love this car. It’s our first EV. The ride is incredibly smooth and responsive. We love how customizable everything is on the interior — from the dashboard to the infotainment to the seats and the interior lighting. The drive modes and different levels of regenerative braking allow you to pick the driving experience that’s right for you — and ease into things like single-pedal driving. Ours is the AWD Limited trim and we love the material on the interior and the seats. Super comfortable and easy to clean. This is primarily a commuter car for us, so we charge it back up to 80% about once a week. We’ve already taken it on one road trip and fast charging time was great. We’ll be taking it on longer trips again soon!

Ioniq 5 2026

I turned in my Fisker Ocean as part of the Chase settlement and wanted another EV. I test drove the Chevy Blazer, Kia EV6 and the Ioniq 5. I found the Hyundai had everything I was looking for in an EV.

Visibility

Love the car, only one issue the climate control area is separate, love it the the color is a light blue on black and when the sun shines or at night the contrast is so low one can not see the buttons to push. I would also have put the recycle air button closer to the driver seat, too far away.

Great car for the $

I previously had a '24 Kona EV, and am much happier with the Ioniq5! It could just use a few minor tweaks in my opinion. See the Cons below

Fantastic Car!

Best car I ever owned. So far only a couple of changes I'd like to see. Would be nice to have a "chicken handle" (assist grip) above the driver's door. Also would like the clock to be displayed on the splash screen that appears when I first get in the car and after I turn it off. And would like the clock display brighter on the expanded Sirius XM screen.

Everything good but one thing

I had the car for less then 3 weeks less then 1000 miles on it when I started getting a pop up alert on the dashboard reading "check driver assistance system" took it to the dealer they said "a rock must've hit a sensor on the front bumper" i have to pay $800 out of pocket to fix ! Absolutely ridiculous. Everytime a rock hits a sensor on the front bumper $800 out my pocket is insane !

Disappointment over my previous 2023 Ioniq5 AWD SEL

I was satisfied with my previous 2023 Ioniq5 AWD SEL, but I am overall disappointed by the 2026 Ioniq5 RWD SEL. It feels cheap on materials choice and appearance, less comfortable and less enjoyable to drive. The drop in power was expected and the extra range is a benefit.

Love it except for a couple of glitches

I have been mostly very happy with my conversion to EV life and Hyundai, but have had two big issues: the first is that I bought a white car but it freaks out in a car wash, won't stay in neutral even when I have hit OK to confirm that's my desired gear. There really needs to be a car wash mode. The second is that the safety system likes to insist that I a driving the wrong way on a road when I am not, and is particularly convinced that the two-lane road to my gym is a one-way street. I go to the gym 4-5 times a week, so that gets pretty annoying.

Great looking car, a few issues

-Love the looks, features and performance -A few interior rattles from drivers door and the hood doesn't fit (uneven gaps side to side) -Color of charge port door different shade than rest of car (cosmic blue) -Plug and Charge ISO15118 doesn't work despite the toggle being enabled on the infotainment. However there is no way on the app to enable it (and yes I have Hyundai Pay enabled, etc). Going on various online forums it seems that this is a common issue for all 2026 owners. Please fix this with an OTA update to the app and/or vehicle if ncessary. -On the limited, would be great to have seat massage (like ID4) instead of the relaxation/recline feature. I dont find it comfortable to use and dont get much value out of it.
