Another Great Hyundai Value
The '14 Elantra GT is my fourth Hyundai, after 3 Accents (which got better with each generation.) I was actually shopping for another Accent, when the salesman made me an amazing offer on this car. Although it is one model year old, it is still the current generation, and still new when I bought it.
In two months I have put 4000 miles on the car.
While the engine seemed a bit weak at first, as it has broken in, it has gained some pep. My favorite freeway on ramp is now an 85 mph blast.
And while EPA estimate is supposed to be 28 mpg combined, I am regularly averaging over 35mpg. My friend's Ford Focus only gets 29.
The interior is very well appointed for a base level car. (The only option on it is the carpetted floor mats.) The setas are firm and supportive, and comfortable even after up to 9 hours in the saddle. I do miss the lumbar support adjustment from mt first two Accents, though.
The design of the dash and the flow into the door panels are visually exciting. And heated seats standard on an Illinois winter morning...Bliss!
The exterior styling is more aggressive than the Elantra. The large open mouth of the grille and small splitters give the front a sportscar-like appearance. The rear spoiler gives shade to back seat passengers, as well as a clean break for air off the roof.
My only complaint is a lack of trunk space. I know this is a result of the hatchback styling, and I can drop the back seats. But I can't do that with two kids in the back.
I am very happy with this car, and plan to be for the next 200,000 miles.
