A Doughty Little Vehicle!
I bought my 2010 Subaru Forrester stick shift used, two years ago, and have found it to be an excellent vehicle for my purposes. It's even able to haul 8' long 2x4's in the cabin, when I fold down the rear seat. Plenty of cargo room! Nice and stable at highway speeds. The All Wheel Drive feature is very nice when it snows, and I have no trouble getting up and down the hilly roads in my area….sure-footed like a cat. Fuel economy is good ( about 30 mpg. on the highway, 24 mpg on local roads). My mechanic says it should last 200,000 miles. If there is any shortcoming in it, I would say that visibility from the driver's seat is, under certain circumstances, less than excellent. For example, waiting at the brow of a hill to get onto a busy road I sometimes really have to crane my neck to look right and left. Backing out of my driveway I can't see right behind the car to check for children, and the backup camera they sell at the dealership is very expensive. My old Toyota van used to have a simple fish-eye mirror attached to the rear window frame, and I could check for children easily. That said, I love my Forrester, and plan to buy another when this one bites the dust, if I live that long! The local Subaru dealership that I go to whenever I need to, is excellent.
