My 2007 Mazda CX9 (mid line model)
I have always had a habit of buying first model year vehicles that really impressed me after the first drive and, by and large, I have been well satisfied over time even though there's usually been a kink or two that had to be sorted out over a year or two of production. In the case of the CX-9, there's really only been one thing that was annoying and that was how you set the clock and this was corrected sometime after the 2007 model year. Having been an owner of an audio store I also wish that I could have been blessed with a more sonically rewarding audio system but I suppose it's good enough for many customers. What I am particularly happy with is the following: Styling (eight years later) is pretty much as good, and in most cases better, than anybody's 2015 offerings. Other than the orange lights for the main instruments, I am still well satisfied with the interior and this is, of course, where you spend your time. The two other key areas that are also excellent is the reliability and virtually all aspects of how the car drives. In particular, I have been amazed that I am still on original brake pads at 71,000 miles and the feel is still good. I am also very well pleased with the steering feel and effort as well as the ability to very smoothly accelerate after a stop since there are some vehicles out there that are hard to drive smoothly. As with any larger SUV, the mileage is not particularly great but at least it's comparable with the competition. I know that 2015 could very well be the last year of production on the CX9 and I've heard that Mazda most likely will not replace it (maybe they want to be out of the 6 cylinder market) which would be sad. All in all, this has been a highly satisfying experience to date so my thanks go out to Mazda for producing this vehicle which has so very well pleased me!
