Never Buying This Again — Too Many Failures in Year One
I bought this Santa Fe Hybrid expecting a reliable family SUV, and one year and 5,000 miles later it has spent close to 30 days total sitting at the dealership instead of in my driveway. The steering column had to be replaced, the 12V battery has died completely twice requiring a jump, and the Driver Attention Warning safety system has failed twice — which matters because when it malfunctions it can disable adaptive cruise control and trigger unexpected braking. That's five repair visits for three unrelated failures in the first year, on a car that's supposed to be new and under warranty.
What concerns me most isn't any single defect but the pattern — a steering component, an electrical system, and a driver safety system all failing independently in year one suggests this isn't bad luck with one part, it's a car that hasn't proven it can go a few months without needing dealer intervention. When it works, it drives well and gets great mileage, but "when it works" isn't good enough for a brand-new vehicle. I can't recommend this car until Hyundai demonstrates these issues are actually fixed rather than temporarily patched.
