Excellent vehicle with a few annoying quirks
Overall, I have really enjoyed this vehicle, though there are a handful of quirks that Hyundai needs to work out.
The first involves the climate control system. When you have it set to Auto and the AC running simultaneously, the vehicle toggles the AC off and on even though the indicator light shows it as continuously on. You can feel the humidity in the cabin rising and falling as a result. What I really want is an option to keep the AC running the whole time for consistent humidity removal while still letting the fan speed adjust automatically to manage temperature. Instead, your only workarounds are to set the thermostat colder than you actually want, or to manually control the fan speed. You should not have to choose between the two.
The second quirk is with the wiper fluid. When you activate it, the wipers only make a single pass across the windshield before stopping. Every other vehicle I have owned makes at least three passes to clear the remaining fluid, so I find myself manually triggering another pass or two every single time just to finish the job.
The third annoyance involves the lane keeping assist feature. It tends to position the car a foot or two closer to the center line than I would prefer, rather than keeping it truly centered in the lane. When passing other vehicles or oncoming traffic, you end up closer to them than feels comfortable. An option to adjust this positioning offset would go a long way.
The fourth issue is one that matters a lot if you live in a cold climate. The front defroster only effectively clears the lower two thirds of the windshield. Even after running it at the highest temperature setting for up to half an hour, ice on the upper portion of the windshield simply never clears. That is a real safety concern when visibility matters most.
Relatedly, heating in the footwell leaves a lot to be desired. Even with the temperature cranked to its highest setting and the airflow directed entirely at your feet, the air coming out is warm but never truly hot. Worse, you can feel a noticeable cool draft blowing up alongside your legs at the same time, which largely cancels out whatever warmth the system is trying to deliver.
Beyond these frustrations, the Tucson Limited Hybrid is a genuinely great vehicle and I would still recommend it. These are fixable issues, and I hope Hyundai is paying attention.
