Stealthy Sport Sedan
What an absolutely fun car this G70 3.3t is. Some serious performance is just an ankle flex away - and I've still not taken it much above 4k rpm as I break it in gently. I'm at 1100 miles now after 2.5 months of ownership and have zero complaints - though a couple of observations. The driving environment is really nicely laid out, complete with physical buttons (!!) for major function and an easy to use touch screen for minor functions - and a really nicely laid out panel for the climate control functions. Materials all look great, and generally feel good to the touch, though i do wish the brushed silver trim and shift paddles were actual brushed aluminum (my 19.5 yr old G35 6MT has real metal trim) - its a tactility thing - though its done right for the pedals with the rubber studded alloy floor hinged pedals. I find the controls very intuitive, and really nicely damped in their motions. Seats are extremely comfortable, with lots of adjustment - love the extending squab on the drivers seat. I do wish the steering wheel would go back another half inch to get arms down just right - very minor quibble a I still have a good position. Unfortunately with the drivers seat set for 6ft me there isn't a lot of foot room underneath it in the rear behind me, BUT I can sit with plenty of knee room thanks to the deep bench and sculpted seat back. But then i didn't buy it as a family car, will only occasionally be used as such. The fully folding seat back is a welcome touch - though the Kia Stinger cousin had the best set up for me with the hatchback body and folding seatback. Visibility is great, though sometimes the passenger headrest can interfere when sitting at an angle to the roadway. Its a very quiet cabin, all noises are muted. Tinted glass is fantastic, living in Houston its a real saver on those really bright days we get a lot of. Everything is just so well put together, fit and finish is top notch with no squeaks or rattles. Panel gaps are tight and consistent and everything lines up as it should. My dark grey paint with the tinted glass and smoked chrome exterior trim looks fantastically sharp - and then the muscularity of the bodywork over the wheels and red Brembo brakes looks amazing. I've had lots of very positive comments from random strangers.
Handling is superb, it just sticks going around corners - I did provoke a minor tail slide just to see what happens, it doesn't bite - and feels completely coordinated between the front and rear. The suspension tuning smothers bumps and ridges easily, with no jarring impacts - and this on 35 aspect ratio Michelin's. Wet grip and handling are almost as impressive as dry, zero issues with meandering or tracking in heavy rain - impressively the rear screen stays very clear in the rain, the couple of times that i've driven in the rain visibility has remained perfect. I do wish that I could have got the limited slip differential on my Sport Advanced car, without having to spring for the Prestige (tons of stuff i neither want, or need). When the turbo's spool up this car really moves, driving home from the dealership after buying it, i found myself north of 80 on the highway without realizing it - and that's in comfort drive mode, even eco mode is fairly athletic..... Just loping along at 70 on the highway it averaged over 30mpg as well today, no complaints about that. Its a very stealthy sport sedan.
One very minor issue for me is the lack of availability of some form of hitch mount for a bike rack - not for towing with it. I know this is most likely down to the battery well under the spare wheel, obviously not a deal breaker as I bought the car. I have a trunk mounted carrier for my road bikes, so I'm not stuck. Would have just been nice to have some sort of socket in the rear bumper.
I cannot say enough about the dealership experience with Genesis of Southwest Houston, absolutely first rate. Not only is the facility a nice place to be, the people working there are fantastic. None of the usual stuff that goes on when buying a car. Very calming atmosphere, almost like a luxury hotel lobby. The only other buying experience I've had like it was back in 2000 when I bought a Saab 9-5. Zero pressure, treated like an adult, no numbers games or hidden fees - just completely straight and open.
