Do you remember the days of the good old fashioned mechanic who could fix anything? Well, maybe you should check out Joy Automotive Repair. Although we specialize in German and Japanese makes such as BMW, Volkswagen, Mercedes Benz, Audi, Lexus, Infiniti, Acura, Honda, Toyota, and Nissan, we service all makes including the domestics.

Of course, all our technicians are ASE certified and they have a full range of factory diagnostic tools. We even work on Hybrids like the Toyota Prius and Honda Civic Hybrid. Plus, our shop is AAA approved and performs smog checks and smog repairs.

Went from "More Joy" to "No Joy"
I went here for years, with four different cars between my wife and I. I always felt they gave me a fair deal and honest service. My point of contact was most often Caesar. When he left, I was bummed but I figured I'd give them a chance because it was convenient. HUGE mistake on my part. My wife took the car in and they recommended a lot of services that the vehicle did not need -- and at prices that were worse than the dealership. Wound up being more than $3,000. We really felt they took advantage of my wife and her lack of car knowledge. I will NEVER go back here. This place has completely changed, and I sincerely believe they ripped us off. I see now that others had the same experience.

Avoid this place
Do not go here. The service writers try to get you on things you don't need done on your car. They overcharge too. Always trying to make a sale on you. They seem nice and all but they get really pushy about selling you something.

Place is not good. They overcharge their customers.
This place takes advantage of their low income workers and the customers. They don't pay their workers the right amount of wages and overcharge customers and try robbing them in making sales on parts they don't need. Stay away.

Best to avoid...
This place used to be great, but they recently changed names from "More Joy" to just "Joy." I suspect that means there was an ownership change. What I can say for sure is that around the time of the name change, the quality of the service went off a cliff.

This week, I called them to make an appointment for a 30,000-mile service for my Toyota. They said they don't do appointments any more and that it's "first come, first served." I asked if I could drop it off during the night, and leave the key in the drop box, so it would be the first in line the next morning. They said that would be just fine, and that the 30,000-mile service takes two hours, so that the car should be ready by 10:00 a.m. or so.

I dropped the car, waited until 10, 11, noon, 1, 2. Finally, at 3:00 I called in and asked about the status of the car. They acted like they'd never heard of me and had never seen my car in their lives. They couldn't find me in the system, and couldn't figure out where my car was. This despite the fact that I had called, then left a note with my key in the drop box, and then I emailed a copy of the note to their e-mail address. Literally EVERY form of communication available to make sure they knew what was going on. Finally, they tracked down the Toyota and told me they hadn't even started it despite having had it for nine hours. Since the close of business was nearing, I had to wait an extra day.

When I showed up the next morning,. they were very apologetic and wanted to make it up to me. I paid them the $600 for the 30,000 mile service and asked if they could do a two-minute repair on my other car. There's a part that came loose on the underside and is dragging and needs to be unscrewed so I can drive the car to the dealership for warranty repairs. I'd do it myself, but the car is low enough to the ground that I can't reach it. They said they would be happy to help out, and that "Miguel" (I think) would take care of it "as soon as he got back." I wasn't terribly clear why one of the other six mechanics couldn't help me, but I said "ok," and sat down to wait. An hour later, and the two-minute repair STILL wasn't done because Miguel was still gone. I gave up and left, and I will never be back.

I've taken at least a dozen cars to this shop over the years, totaling at least 50 distinct repair jobs and probably $30,000 in business. So, I know how good they used to be. But every interaction in the last six months has been AWFUL. I suggest you stay away.

Smog Check & Oil Change = EASY
I decided on Monday afternoon that I was going to take my car in for an oil change. Then, "oh yeah," I need a smog check. But, they do those also. So, I took my car in at opening time and by 11:00 it was done. Smog check, oil change, plus they found a nail in my tire and patched it for hardly anything. Oh, and of course, FREE CAR WASH!

Terrific in diagnosis and updating any changes along the way. Sent photos of problems discovered. Work finished in a timely manner. Couldn't be happier and will certainly return for next service or any issues that arise.
