I brought my truck in for an alignment because another shop had replaced steering parts, but thought their alignment rack was too small to fit my wheelbase.
Was told by B & B Auto that I needed a ball joint replaced as well (admittedly it had some movement, but not enough to justify replacing it, especially considering the over 2000 dollar cost they quoted me for the whole ticket).
The only work B & B Auto performed was a "Front End Inspection" (translation, they looked at my truck), no repairs, no replacements, no adjustments, all they did was look at my truck, and they demanded 200 dollars for that privelege. When I pushed back, I got condescendingly lectured about "Well getting it on the rack and looking at things takes time, and we are gonna get paid for that"; meanwhile I'm trying to think of a SINGLE TIME in my career as a blue collar worker, or my grandfather's 30+ year career as an IBEW electrician for that matter, that either of us got to charge someone 200 dollars for the part of the job where we just LOOK AT WHATEVER IT IS AND COME UP WITH A QUOTE. With that kind of thinking, I'm surprised that B& B Auto doesn't also charge you a per minute rate to talk to them on the phone, or a hinge maintenance fee each time you open their door, or a per piece of paper fee to print out your receipt, because all of those things make about as much sense as charging someone for a quote!
This will be the last time I give this place ANY business of ANY kind (unless of course they would like to go ahead and flip the script and pay me 200 dollars for the privilege of havint me look at their shop again to reconsider, because apparently that's how things work here), and in fact I would be more than happy to go out of my way to actively tell other people not to give them any business as well.
I don't care if I break down on their doorstep and no other shop is open that day, I will pay to have my vehicle towed elsewhere and get a hotel room until somewhere else is open, because B & B Auto in Bremerton, Washington, is a perfect example of why the everyday person is inherently distrustful of vehicle mechanics as an industry, and I wouldn't trust B & B Auto to refill my washer fluid after this experience, because I wouldn't be shocked if they tried to charge me a thousand bucks to do that and justified it by saying something like "We had to open a cap with our own fingers, and take special handling precautions like wearing safety gloves, because that is a hazardous material!"
