Towed to Most Local Place
I’m new to the area and when my car broke down and had to get towed this was the closest mechanic. I ended up going to my dealership because my issue was covered under warranty, however Cass in the front office was extremely understanding, helpful, and kind. She had great customer service and was able to help me.

Very bad
My car was brought there for a battery and alternator. They wanted to charge me over $1,550 for this service. I brought the car to another car service station and they only charged me $650. In addition, they seem to pad the labor hours when performing the service, telling me it takes 40 minutes to change a battery. It takes at most 10 minutes, I have done it many times.

Regarding Your Recent Visit and Feedback

Dear Charles,

We are responding to your recent feedback to clarify the facts surrounding your visit.

Your junk vehicle has over 250,000 miles, and during your visit we diagnosed a failed alternator and battery. We presented you with multiple repair options, including the option of installing a used alternator to reduce cost. You declined all repair options and chose not to proceed with any work.

A diagnostic fee was charged for the time and expertise required to properly evaluate the vehicle. As with all customers, this fee applies regardless of AAA membership, as our technicians do not work without compensation. In addition we are glad you found a shop that suites your wallet.

Submitting a negative survey despite declining repairs does not accurately reflect the services provided or the options offered. We acted professionally, transparently, and in good faith throughout your visit.

We stand by our diagnosis, our pricing, and our business practices.

pleased with staff and service
The staff at Smithwest are professional and explain everything to you before they start any work on your car. they also print out a detailed receipt with the work that was done and include a separate list of things that your car will need to get done in the near future.

Excellent experience!
It was such a pleasure dealing with Smithwest. From their honesty and pictures of car parts that needed to be fixed, to ordering me an Uber and having an after-hours box to pick up keys and paperwork, everything was seamless. Such a better experience than going to the dealership.

Honest, Reliable, Quality
SmithWest is an Honest, Reliable and Quality repair shop. My father brought his Mercedes back to the dealership for a minor gas leak and wanted to charge over $2k for the repair. After speaking with Cassandra who is always pleasant and accommodating, We dropped the car off for Angelo and his team to look at. After inspection, the repair was done for more than 50% less than Mercedes. I highly recommend SmithWest and trust them with all mine and my families vehicles.

  Mary Anne, thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that you felt your experience did not meet expectations. During your visit, our team completed your New York State Inspection and replaced your serpentine belt that was cracked. We also noted that your oil change service was over due based on age and that both your engine air filter and cabin air filter had not been changed since January 2022 which are both dirty/clogged. 

We understand that these recommendations may feel overwhelming, but they're critical for the health and safety of your vehicle. Our intention is to never to come across as unfriendly, but to provide honest guidance. Even when a vehicle isnt driven often, or doesnt meet the 3,000-5,000 mile mark, oil can break down and absorb moisture over time, which leads to harmful build up.

We truly value your business and appreciate the opportunity to serve you.
