Engine blew. This car sucks.

Engine blew before 80,000 miles. Toyota would do nothing for me to help fix it.

2009 Toyota Corolla (Japan manufacture) review

Although not purchased from the Tonkin dealership, I chose almost right from the start to have my car serviced in Portland rather than with the Gresham dealer. I found the mechanics and service staff far more competent and patient, and the work has always been first class, in distinction to the poor and erratic service and customer relations experienced at the Gresham dealership. I had all of the factory recall work plus two technical service bulletin items completely complied with with good results. Those "items" included the under-dash computer electric steering module replacement within a year of purchase due to the car's very poor handling and steering characteristics. Apparently the first generation of all-electric steering has NOT gone well with the Corolla, and it could have gained much from European manufacturers who have perfected this technological upgrade beyond what used only to be "power steering" in models older than 2009. I was distressed to discover that handling difficulties were common according to many owners of this model, years 2009 and 2010, and ultimately I got a factory unit replacement to the defective "first run" steering module installed at no charge. The other service bulletin item was a poorly-designed water pump which started to fail with well-documented seepage just short of the fifth year warranty period. While having a new and better water pump installed, I also replaced the serpentine belt long before it was due only because changing it at the time the defective water pump was replaced made good preventive maintenance sense. Despite these problems, I was delighted with the car's handling on a very long road trip at high speeds, something I never would have tried had the electric steering module NOT been replaced. One thing that irks me is that the Corolla was supplied with a doughnut spare despite the standard wheel and tire compartment in the rear trunk. I immediately purchased a standard steel wheel and proper size and tread spare, which required lengthening the hold-down rod and custom-machining an oversize "washer" to secure the spare properly. In-town driving still has the car "handling like a boat." And by that I don't mean a Chris Craft yacht. Reliability rating below reflects the many factory recalls and some selling dealtership "attitude problems." Service at Tonkin has been superb!

Repairs are very expensive

I've spent $3200.00 dollars on repairs since I bought my corolla new in 2009. An alternator at 37000 miles, then a coil, two front struts, a water pump and an oil leak. Now I'm coming up on 100,000 miles and I will need a complete brake job front and back. Every repair in the shop has been no less than $500.00. I did the struts myself and it was still $250.00. Yikes.

One of the best investments I've ever made.

This car offers SO much bang for the buck. I've never experienced such a comfortable, PRACTICAL, "easy" car to drive. It just feels so right! Excellent handling, great gas mileage, good performance, loads of room, very comfortable (heated) seats... etc. It's a surprisingly long list! And Michael's Toyota of Bellevue does a great job of helping me keep it in top condition, because I intend on keeping this car for a very long time. In fact, it still looks brand new!

187;000 miles

replacement waterpump was better built than original. after six recalls the problem of sudden exceleration in reverse without pressing on excelerator pedal has never been addressed by Vancouver service personel after I told them about it . Total denial is easier than seeking a solution to a dangerous problem!

Corolla 2009

Great car and handles well ... The problem is that it still has bugs that I have been complaining about since I bought it ... Sometime I get tired of calling the dealer and Toyota about the bugs ... Also, I appreciate that Toyota is standing behind their car ... They have great customer service and they're helpful ... This encourages me to keep the car and be more loyal to Toyota.8

Avid Fan of Hi Tech Import Automotive

I have always been taken care of here as though I were family. First by George and Mary, and now by Craig. I also deeply appreciate the fact that they have incredible integrity, just as George and Mary had for all of us. I feel taken care of with every visit I have made there and KNOW when I walk away that I have NOT been ripped off, But that my car is indeed taken care of and going to perform as it should. Today I needed the left brake light replaced in order for my daughter to take her behind the wheel Driver's test. I hadn't even known that it was out, until I actually got to the DMV on County Line Road, So I headed first to Hi Tech Auto (As far away as Lakewood) But before I got there I gave them a call and talked with Craig. He assured me that he could stop for me and get it taken care of in very little time. I felt relieved instantly and my frazzled daughter did too. And best of all, Craig delivered. Just as he had said he would, he took pause to take care of us in order that we could get back to the DMV before 11:00 am this morning as the lady had said for us to do so my daughter could still take the test today. But instead we made it back to the DMV by around 10:30 some. It was a potentially bad day turned good. AND she passed her test too! And I owe this to Craig. So, Craig, thank you.

Jack Lord, Service Advisor, Ron Tonkin NE 122nd, is Excellent.

I have experienced nothing other than the most exceptional Customer Service and Auto Service at Ron Tonkin. I puchased this car at this dealership. Jack Lord and Mitchell are the main reasons I am such a loyal customer. They are incredible - know my needs, professional, fast, courteous, knowledgable, and my car is always returned beyond my expectations. They never fail to go beyond the call of duty.
