1997 Mercedes SL320

I bought my ‘97 SL 320 From Carmax in 2006. It only had 20,000 miles on it. Since I’ve owned it I have put 49,000 miles on it. It has been a great little car and I have had very little trouble with it over the years. The one issue I have had with the car is the hydraulics turn to dry out. That’s really my fault because the car sits in my garage in Palm Springs for five months every year and isn’t driven. I know that’s hard on the car, especially the hydraulics for the convertible top. But it can’t be helped because I’m away at my summer place up in Oregon and no one drives the car while I am away.

1997 Mercedes SL500

My SL500 has 146k miles and runs very smooth every time I run it. The ability for a hardtop, soft top, or no top is the ultimate flexibility. Although the car has a "winter" driving mode, the rear wheel power and weight make it a terrible idea. Definitely not a family vehicle, as the rear area doesn't even pretend to be a back seat. Very advanced for it'd day, and the definition of luxury for the time. Neat features make passengers appreciate the vintage, such as a car phone in the center console and a pop-up phone system in the dash. More of a sleeper than most cars with 315+ horsepower. Sounds and drives super quiet and refined. Their resale pricing makes them a great bang-for-buck fun car. Especially considering they were $100k new. The only drawback I can put on this car is the maintenance costs... for instance, it take 8.5 quarts of premium synthetic oil, premium fuel only, high end MB parts.

Love my SL500

This car is the most amazing car I have ever owned. It is a true work of art and a pleasure to drive! The car though small feels very safe because of the handling and braking. Having a hard top and soft top makes it great in all seasons.

320 SL

I bought my 320SL because it was the last year Mercedes put the inline 6 in the SL body. I had a 1988 E300 Coupe and it was a wonderful automobile. I fell in love with the car and loved the enginel. My '97 SL is now 20 years old and still runs like a brand new car. It's so much fun to drive, great to handle, costs very little to maintain and remains my favorite car. It's a timeless, classical beauty--still as lovely today as it was twenty years ago when it was in the showroom!
