Defective Battery Pack

I brought my 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5N to the dealer service department 3 weeks ago for a "Check Electrical System" warning light and was told by the service manager that the issue is a defective battery pack that needed to be replaced. He said the battery pack is on order but does not have a firm date of when it will be available. Reading some posts online, it seems that there have been several incidents of battery pack failure and that some people have had to wait months for the replacement packs. It is unacceptable for the vehicle to be out of service for such an extended time. I have had the 5N for only a year and driven it less than 6500 miles. It is a 2 year lease and I am very concerned that I may not see the car repaired before the lease expires next year.

Hyundai Ioniq 5N - one year later

The car's retro style looks great. Performance is also top-notch. The ride is a little firm but compliant. Handling is good. The range is too low. There needs to be some work on the controls. For example, I can't see the AC temperature controls with my sunglasses on. The organization and dependencies of the advanced driving features need optimization. Above all, the car is fun to drive.

2025 Ioniq 5 N

The Ioniq 5N is a very fun car, but should have more top features that other Ioniq 5 models have. HUD, motorized seats with memory settings, more seat adjustments, better sound system, moonroof, etc. are all things that should be included at this price point. It’s easy to ignore those missing items during spirited driving, but are a constant reminder of missing items on normal daily driving.

Reliability and service are iffy at best

Bought the car brand new. After 7 months and 2 thousand miles, the EV battery went dead. It took Hyundai and the dealership nearly 3 months to diagnose, approve a new EV battery, and then get it replaced. The other day my 12V battery went dead, another know issues in these cars.

ICCU Failure

Less than 12 months of ownership and not even 12,000 miles on the vehicle ICCU has failed. Not only has it failed I’ve been told the part is on back order with no discernible timeframe on the repair or return of my vehicle. Based on my case 41382596 I was denied any compensation for what could be months before my vehicle is returned. No EV loaner was able to be fulfilled and it’s no promise I will be compensated for the fuel I have to now purchase. I will be paying for a car I can’t drive, and now paying for gas on lease that I am losing time of my ownership experience. Before this event I was a diehard fan of the product and I even planned to get an Ioniq 6 N. But Hyundai was aware this part was failing and has not made any attempts to express ship and produce these parts to consumers is unacceptable. In addition the paint easily chips, and the interior door inserts peel at the slightest scratch.

It doesn't get any better than Ioniq 5 N

They made an EV that delivers on everything! The performance is not done justice with a rating of 10. You have to go to the track to find the limits but its more fun on the road than you can explain in words as all the car reviewers fell short. It fits 5 people or a whole home project in the back. Range is exactly as advertised and so is charging performance and driving down the Pacific coast was no problem even in the 100 degree California heat. I will say it could be more comfortable just because roadtriping with bucket seats can get uncomfortable but to me you'd have to spend time than I did so I gave it a 9. Awesome car...time is the only remaining test.

If there's a first EV to "try out", this is it!

I sold my 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio for QV with great apprehension to a lovely couple. But, I was quite eager and curious to try out the I5N based on vids and reads. While I still feel that the Alfa is much more lovely to behold, the I5N has an appeal of its own. This large "hatch" with a boxy, origami style design is very well put together. It feels solid; there are no rattles and squeaks. For such a heavy vehicle, its power is prodigous and propels in such a smooth (and dizzying) fashion I had not experienced in brisk driving in my Alfa. The "ignition, futuristic and jet" sounds are entertaining despite their very arcade quality. The ability to make the EV behave as if it had "gears" is refreshing when you want or miss "shifting". The sound and behavior characteristics through the "gears" are actually good references to the vehicle's behavior and driver's responses. The Bose sound system is excellent. Space management is stellar compared to the Alfa's. Especially the rear seating with no driveshaft tunnel. The rear seats recline and slide. The Alfa's were set and somewhat upright. The steering of the Alfa, however, was much more direct. THAT, I miss !! The I5N does not give me the same steering sensitivity and acuteness. As I drive only less than 50 miles a day, I stuck with the Level 1 12 amp charging at home up to 80%. I did get credit through Hyundai for their supercharger access should I need to, however. So far, it's been a non issue. Cargo room is very decent, too. Friends who've ridden and experienced the level of acceleration and rapidity at which it can do so were "shocked", perhaps even frightened. The lack of sound in EV's and the smoothness of the delivery confuses the senses, I feel, and may contribute to a bit of nausea for some. In any event, it's my first foray into the EV experience. I likely won't experience a race track test but I'll take the reputable auto journalists words out there. I certainly like the build quality and dash layout over the drab and hyper minimalistic approach of the Megalomaniac! (You KNOW !!) Well done, Hyundai!

One of my favorite cars I've ever owned!

This car is perfect for car enthusiasts looking to make the move from gas powered cars to EV's. I love that the HVAC system can still be controlled outside of the touchscreen. That is one of my least favorite things about the Tesla's. It also makes the car feel more like a gas powered vehicle. I'm not sure I've ever been more happy with a car purchase. The only negative experience was dealing with the finance team at the dealership. They added warranty/service contracts to the lease without my consent. I had to go back and forth with them to get them agree to a different lease. In my opinion, they were trying to keep the Federal EV tax credit by tacking on additional charges.

The 5N is amazing, if it works. My 5N has a battery defect.

The “Ngineering” and performance of the 5N are incredible. Truly amazing! But, my 5N has a battery management system defect that cannot seem to be repaired, making it unusable.

Fantastic in almost every way, fun, attractive, large carrying capacity, great handling, good ish ride. Great re gen, incredible cruise control almost perfection, & has afterburner. Not much to complain about. Controls too complicated. Ty guys & gals for the best thing since sliced bread. GaryP

Fantastic EV!

After driving a 2024 Limited AWD model for 2 years, I decided to get the N. As a daily driver it’s been great. So far, no issues. Just wish I had waited a few more weeks to get the better lease deal.

Lightning in a bottle; a stylish hatchback EV that's actually FUN!

I'm a driver. You need to know I've owned a lot of the top sports sedans, SUVs and wagons over a 30 year period. When I say this is a fun car, it is a smile inducing experience that also happens to be efficient and practical. It's not just the speed, although, it certainly has that in spades. It's the driving engagement from the best engineering marvel from this decade, and yet it can also be a completely docile grocery getter. The N-Shift technology has made (what I thought were boring) EVs, into a whip-crack shifting, head snapping, torque monster sports car. The suspension is tuned so well it actually defies it's weight. The adjustability and amount of customizations let you hone in on your ride and driving preference with precision. Don't take my word for it, just watch any one of the 100s of videos of people driving it with grins from ear to ear. It's the sheer joy of driving it, that let's you know it's something special. And it's why I put one in my garage.

Amazing with exceptions

9 out of 10. Just wish features that are advisted or what you see on line about the car matched . THere are a few issing features that don't come with the US version and exist with the other builds outside of the US. Overall the car is amazing and only wished tht those features would have been carried over into a 5N version costing more than the 5 Limited.

My 2025 Ionic 5 N: Satisfying Purchase and Daily Enjoyment

I purchased my 2025 Hyundai Ionic 5 N in May of 2025, after over a year of researching and visiting multiple dealers to discuss the vehicle. YouTube videos from both proponents and critics helped in my decision to move forward and "never just drive". I daily drive a minimum 72 miles per day, and have started taking back roads to better learn the car, using the various modes to acclimate myself with what it capable of. I look forward to taking it soon to a local road course, Dominon Raceway, to fully enjoy! Not a day goes by that I don't learn something new, and I look forward to years of enjoyment as this will be my only vehicle for at least the next 8 - 10 years.
