Affordable luxury redefined, with a few things missing
I love my Genesis, plain and simple. Is it perfect? No! It is an experience I truly love and look forward to indulge in when I drive! It is the kind of luxury which does not go over the top to make its presence felt, but a muted polished assistant which is confident of knowing when you need help and fully ready to serve up! The customized ergonomic posture adjusting seat is a good example, tucked away in settings, but the moment you let it do its thing, you will notice the difference in your driving comfort immediately! The vast array of driving assist features is awesome, but it is becoming more and more standard fare, so what is truly unique is the time and place when these features or only the most relevant subset of them engage, and more important disengage. You the driver are still fully in control. The design intent to remain reasonable and practical is evident in the thankful choice to retain physical buttons (you don't need to search for a touchscreen button just to open the glovebox!)
Nothing though is perfect, and Genesis leaves somethings that can be useful!
1. The door storage pockets are simply too shallow and small. You can barely fit an umbrella and nothing else. It needs to be more practical and thoughtful.
2. Car doors should auto lock when a certain time has elapsed after you have walked away from the car with the keys. Currently, the car will remain unlocked until you explicitly lock it. This is a safety feature that should not be missed.
3. Locating the car in a typical parking lot is challenge simply because unlocking it does not make any sound!
4. Would it not be great if the A pillars did not have a supporting beam running under the retracting moonroof across the vehicle width! It just spoils the beautiful view!
5. The mount for the rear windshield vipers should be on the top rather than bottom, so that they can be completely hidden when not in use!
6. The cargo area will definitely benefit from thoughtful storage, something like BMWs offer, including things such as an extendable cargo extension
