My wife made two separate trips to the dealership for safety recall work, only to arrive and find that the necessary parts were not available.
On another occasion, she received both emails and text messages indicating that our vehicle was due for its 5,000-mile service. She took the vehicle in based on those notifications, only to find that the service wasn't actually needed.
Most recently, our 2025 Palisade, which has only about 10,000 miles, developed a performance issue involving a significant delay in acceleration followed by the engine revving before the vehicle responds. We scheduled a diagnostic appointment to have it evaluated.
I arrived expecting to wait for the diagnostic. Instead, I was told that the vehicle needed to be dropped off and that it could be 24–48 hours before they would even diagnose it. I was then told that this had already been explained to my wife when the appointment was scheduled. My wife is certain that she was never told this. Had we known beforehand that a scheduled diagnostic appointment meant leaving our vehicle for potentially two days before it was even evaluated, we would have made other arrangements.
I spoke with dealership management about the repeated problems we've experienced. What surprised me most was the response. During our conversation, the manager acknowledged problems with the people and systems they rely on, referred to having incompetent people working with them, and said their reliance on AI causes some of the communication issues I described. He also referenced the conflict with Iran and difficulty finding available workers as contributing factors.
I understand that every business deals with staffing, technology and supply-chain challenges. But customers shouldn't repeatedly bear the consequences through wasted trips and inaccurate or incomplete information.
We like our Hyundai, but after multiple unnecessary trips, poor communication surrounding safety recalls and maintenance, and now difficulty simply getting a performance problem diagnosed on a nearly new vehicle, we have lost confidence in this service department.
We have contacted both Hyundai and AutoNation corporate about our experiences and intend to have our vehicle serviced by another authorized Hyundai dealership going forward.
I hope AutoNation Hyundai Columbia takes these concerns seriously and improves its service scheduling and communication. Customers should be able to trust that when an appointment is made, the information they're given is accurate and their time will be respected.
