I set up an appointment for this evening to test drive and potentially purchase a vehicle from this dealership. I drove over an hour to get there and after “test driving” the vehicle, 3 right hand turns on very short roads and back into the parking lot, we sat down to go over the paperwork and negotiate a deal. Before even asking me any questions the sales lady said she was going to talk to her sales manager and present us an offer. The sticker price was $45,110 and included both packages offered through Hyundai as factory upgrades. I was absolutely willing to pay this amount +TTL. I also wanted to negotiate the “appearance package” that I have seen on these vehicles into the deal. I was willing to pay a reasonable price for the package In addition to the sticker price plus applicable taxes and fees. When the sales lady returned to the desk and presented the offer the price had went from the sticker price to roughly $4500 higher. When I look to see what the increase was for, there was an additional $3000 for the family plan for five years and also $995 for a vehicle tracking app that she said I could download on my phone if I wanted to. The family plan is something that they offer for FREE for 12 months with every new vehicle purchase and you have the OPTION to upgrade that plan for either three years or five years if you’d like. I told her that I did NOT want to upgrade the family plan and I did NOT want a tracking device because neither were of use for me. I was told that she could NOT remove those items and that I would HAVE to pay them in order to purchase the vehicle. I told her again that I didn’t want either of this items and I would not pay for something additional that I did not want and that the other Hyundai dealerships that I had previously spoken with, one of them being Clay Cooley Hyundai of Rockwall, none had said it would be a REQUIREMENT for me to purchase their OPTIONAL upgraded “family plan”. When I said that she immediately stated that Clay Cooley Hyundai in Rockwall was their sister company and would have said the same thing as she did. She took the offer paperwork and went into the Sales Managers office and told him what I said, I could hear their entire conversation which was not professional, in which he stated that “The Rockwall dealership ABSOLUTELY told me that and there’s NO WAY they didn’t”. He then proceeds to walk her back to her desk with paperwork in hand and tells me “I have people driving all the way from Oklahoma to purchase vehicles and with the state of the car business the offer is fair”. I pointed at the laminated up sales sheet on the desk where it CLEARLY says there is an OPTIONAL 3yr and OPTIONAL 5yr family plan upgrade and proceeded to ask him a question when I was abruptly interrupted and he said “with the state of the car business, the price is firm”. I knew right then that I was dealing with someone who cared ZERO about customer service and only about screwing customers out of money they didn’t need to spend. I simply said “Ok” and my wife and I walked out. I will never return to this dealership and I will steer any and every person I talk to about car buying away from Clay Cooley Hyundai of Mesquite AND Clay Cooley Hyundai of Rockwall if they too want to FORCE people to pay thousands of dollars for OPTIONAL items when trying to purchase a vehicle. A car dealership is supposed to make car buying an exciting experience but Clay Cooley Hyundai of Mesquite ruined it today.
