Good First Car
I bought my 1999 MK3 Jetta in 2014 with 186,000 so definitely way past her prime. That being said, she has served me well as a first car. This is the 2.0L Automatic Wolfsburg Edition, so not a race car by any means but she gets up and goes when I need her to. The seats in here are not very comfortable and as anyone familiar with MK3 VW's is aware, the "cup holders" are a joke, holding at maximum capacity 2 cans of Red Bull. But hey, I'll take 2 crappy little change holders over the stupid flimsy plastic pop out one from the MK4 generation. The speakers produce good sound, and she gets reasonable gas mileage for how old she is and the kind of driving I do. The rear window is easy to see out of which is a huge advantage over a lot of contemporary cars. The trunk space is very reasonable. And in true VW fashion, the heater blows HOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTT and the A/C blows ICE COLD. Perfect. This was a very easy car to learn how to drive in and every time I think about trading her, I always remember how well she's treated me.
