Awesome vehicle! It handles well, especially during off-roading. The vehicle provides a comfortable, roomy ride with plenty of power. A big plus is the cargo area. I have hauled everything from Christmas trees to sofas. The only negative is the gas mileage which ranges from 14-18 mpg. I bought it new and have no plans to trade it for another vehicle. It is the last year for the LR4 model. Below, my recommendation is a ten, if you can find a used one.

This is the ultimate vehicle.

What doesn’t the LR4 do? It’s classy. It’s responsive. It’s capable on road and even more so off-road. It can tow up to 7,700lbs. I’ve driven past the defeated vehicles of other brands in winter storms without even using chains. I can take the wife to a performance in heels and an evening gown and the very next day exploring local mountains off-road. This thing is very capable off road and I’ve been in a few spots where it really impressed me. It’s truly a jack-of-all trades. I LOVE the classic, upright, boxy, British styling. There is nothing on the road that can be mistaken for an LR4. I wish all the foreign market options had been available like wading sensors and Diesel engines. Downsides? Gas mileage isn’t the best. Repairs are expensive. The cooling system was designed for a V8 and later forced to cool a dual super-charged V6 which runs a lot hotter and the cooling system must be within spec. The water pumps and coolant cross-over pipes WILL go out at some point so it’s a poor design there. Finding after market accessories can be a challenge and you’ll need an Indy shop mechanic if you don’t want to pay outrageously over priced dealer service costs. Other than that it’s the perfect car for me and I wouldn’t trade it on for anything except maybe a 2000’d diesel Defender which I can’t get in the US (yet) anyhow. At this price point there should be cooled seats. A factory brake controller should be available. Cut the recommended oil change interval in half and save yourself grief in the high-mileage years.
