Love this zippy car !
Chevy made a super-star car: the Sonic, the only subcompact both built and sold in North America. Introduced at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, by 2013, it won the Consumer Guide Automotive Best Buy award. Very impressive.
I own the LTZ 5-speed hatchback, 138 hp turbocharged 1.4-liter 4-cylinder with 148 ft-lb of torque. It is safe, great on gas mileage, and comfortable for young drivers, and short, old people like me. The color palette is daring (not your grandma's bland silver); mine is Inferno orange metallic: spicy! I've seen newer models in bright green, deep purple and copper. It is equipped with OnStar (never used after initial trial) and a power sun roof. DO NOT lose the jackknife key fob: they are pricey $$$.
There are long-term issues, so oil maintenance and thermal system checks cannot be ignored. Hoses are nylon and one of mine disintegrated, so heat is an enemy.
It has been a great vehicle for 11 years. With proper maintenance, it'll make 250,000. Plastic interior details could have been better: both sun visors do not fold up, the gear shift head fell off and radio knobs have worn. Recently, the mini tilt control that mimics a joy stick to position both rear-view mirrors is flopping. I was able to haul all kinds of stuff with the rear seats flat. Great storage capacity. Too bad Chevy stopped production on the Sonic in 2020 to ramp up the Bolt. This car is SOLID. Equipped with Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, and a USB port hidden in the glovebox. I LOVE IT !! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
