Don't take your diesel engine to these folks!
Brian, you're a nice guy, but you make my point. If you weren't comfortable with removing an injector nozzle and replacing it, you should have quit right then. Instead, you suggested replacing the head. You are correct, your shop is an OEM parts changer.

Don't take your diesel engine to these folks!
I had a smog test done several months earlier, nice guys. An injector went out on my Ford 6.0, and I had it towed to Roadrunner to support a local business. I told them my #3 cylinder had a sleeve in the injector slot. They talked to me about pulling the sleeve, and I told them NO, the ring in the head had a crack, and the sleeve circumvented it. They tried to place a stock injector in, and I told them the nozzle had to be changed, and told them the website to find the sleeve and repair part (they had never heard of this repair besides claiming to be 6.0 experts). They installed the new injector, and it still missed once it got warm. They told me the head must be cracked, and I said, " Stop!" I had to pay almost $2,700, then sent it to West Sac, where it had been repaired before. It took two hours for that shop to determine the trouble. THE INJECTOR NOZZLE HAD NOT BEEN FULLY TIGHTENED (snapped into place)! When I returned, I told them their response was, "I wish that had been in the instructions." I commented, "So it cost me $2,700 to teach you a new type of repair system and properly install a nozzle." The response was, "I guess so". NO JOKE!

We’re sorry to hear about your experience and appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. At Roadrunner Automotive, we are used to repairing vehicles according to OE (original equipment) specifications. In your case, your engine had aftermarket modifications that we were unfamiliar with, and we did let you know about this upfront.

We also found that your vehicle required a fuel pump replacement, which we completed. Our goal was to get your truck running again, but since the repair involved non-standard parts, there were additional challenges that fell outside of normal OE procedures.

We understand how frustrating this was for you, and we’ll use your experience as a reminder to continue improving how we communicate when a repair involves custom or aftermarket modifications. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to work on your vehicle and for supporting a local business.
