Brought my old Volvo to Ma's a few years ago as my other mechanics have given up working on it. Ma's was able to fix it. When they convinced me to get an oil change as my tank was dry and that I needed a new set of tires, was just cordial to oblige as was happy being able to drive my car again. Forgot the total damage for these needs (I know it was hefty) but all I can remember was the additional unforeseen expense. Checked my records later that night and found out that my oil tank being dry was improbable as I didn't notice a leak prior to my visit and was not scheduled for an oil change for another 1,000 miles. Though felt duped, this was forgiven.
I brought my son's car, also a Volvo to the shop a year ago for a grinding/rattling noise. They said they have fixed brakes and what not and should solve the noise issue and charged $1,600+. It was NOT. Lesson learned, so I thought, will never bring any of my vehicles back to them again.
I was at Costco a few days ago to have my son's tires replaced and job was stalled as one of the two tires' bolts were overly tightened and had me bring back to the mechanic who last checked the car. I was back at Ma's. A mere admission of fault and a fix should have been enough for Ma's shop to save its reputation but instead, was sucked up again to spend another $1,000+ for a new wheel hub. And as if adding insult to injury, as I headed out the door a thousand bucks poorer, was being pushed to buy new tires from them as they could match or be cheaper than other stores - it will NOT happen. What seemed to have started as a would be good customer/mechanic relationship had catapulted to a very bad one, resulting to a very disappointed customer. Now I know where the previous bad reviews were coming from. I suggest others check other shops and not be subjected to a TRAP.
