Unprofessional behavior cost them this sale and the next.
My wife and I wanted to buy a Genesis G70. Our salesman, Dave Berg, seemed very enthusiastic to help. A few days in, we decided to try for a G80 instead (we weren't sure we could qualify). That's when something went off the rails, which we still do not understand.

Something got screwed up in finance, apparently. Dave stopped responding to messages. I had to call the sales manager to find out what was going on. I was told that my "preapproved" financing had come back too low...suspiciously low. When I called the finance company they told me the dealer hadn't submitted it properly. The sales manager, Jim, said that they had talked to the company and now it was approved higher. I informed Dave via message that we would take the G70 as originally planned, as our financing would allow that. He said he would check with financing to verify everything and get back to me. He never did.

A week went by and Dave would not respond to any form of communication. The sales manager was suddenly "out of the office" when I called, and also ignored my voice mail in which I informed him that we had obtained financing through our credit union (which I did when Dave started ignoring us) and wanted to by the G70, but did not want to deal with Dave Berg anymore since he wasn't responding.

That call and message were never returned, and our "delivery" date came and went with no further communication from this dealership.

By contrast, we found a top trim G70 (the one from Genesis of Appleton was not) at another dealership over 150 miles from home and contacted them. Within 24 hours the entire transaction (minus our trade) was done and delivery set. We drove almost 3 hours to THAT dealership (who gave us a better deal on our trade then this dealership was going to offer), they greeted us as we got out of our soon-to-be old car and the entire transaction, including spending an hour walking us through features, took under 2 hours. We even had an issue post-delivery, and they're bending over backwards to fix it. It's almost like THEY care about keeping a customer down the road.

There are many positive reviews of Genesis of Appleton, so we are very curious what made us different...what made us worthy of such (in our opinion) unprofessional treatment. Would it have been so hard to say "we can't get you financed" or at least return my call to verify whether we had, in fact, gotten our own financing when I left a message saying literally "we have financing and we want to buy the car?" Apparently so, and now another dealer got the $50k+ sale, and will get the next one when we upgrade in a few years.
