Went from stellar to stinker crazy fast
I took my car to Dempsey Automotive on 3A in Bow, NH to get my clutch replaced. I trust Jason, the owner. He's honest and fair and has always been absolute stellar whenever I had work done previously. The bill came to roughly $1700. I paid it and Jason who informed me he JUST sold the business to a man named Matt. Advised me it would need a rear wheel bearing as well. So I told them to fix it and figured they're right around $300-$400 to get it fixed. I just paid $1700 so, whatever. Another $400, while it sucks, I'd rather have a safe car. Told him to let me know when it was done. 44 days after my Subaru arrived there it was finally ready. (I knew it would be at least 3 weeks due to Jason having shoulder surgery. I accepted it because I know having a mechanic with integrity is good as gold, I was willing to wait.) Called to pay my bill and see when I could pick it up, Matt advised me my new bill was a little over $1000. ? I paid it and went to the actual shop to see my invoice. Wtheck turned this into more than double what it should've cost without even calling me to see if it was okay. He told me he "discounted" my bill down to $732.46. I left with my invoice so I wouldn't lose my temper there. I got a ride back to pick up the Subaru and Matt was just getting back with my car. One last test drive, everything's all set. I told him I was uncomfortable having my car on the property any longer, that charging someone more than double what it should've been is a shitty business practice. No one even called me to tell me it would be so so much more than I thought. ? Do not bring your car there anymore, it's not the same business, not the same owner, not the same honesty, integrity and straightforwardness as before. I have recommended Demsey to at least 20 people in the past. Whenever someone around me says they need work done-its the place I tell them to go. Not anymore. This is literally textbook definition of bait and switch. ?? I'm so sick to my stomach about this. 44 days and $2432.46 bill later, the jokes on me. No approval for the extra work. I will never be back again.
