Buyer beware
Always follow your first instinct. Purchase a 2020 Kia Sportage from them 2 years ago and it needs a new engine. This company doesn’t offer carfax reports. The sales person had an attitude about my request to have the recalls repaired prior to purchasing. I purchased from out of state. After purchase I was mailed the forms and told to take them to the state to change the title myself even though I paid a $500 documents fee. I was told LoJack was required and charged another $500. And paid $5000 for a warranty that doesn’t cover the engine that is consuming oil at rapids rates. Have to put oil in the engine ever 14 days. BUYER BEWARE. find another that cares about what they sell their customers.

FALSE ADVERTISING
I'm not laaving any stars because they don't deserve one. My car was repossessed because of their false advertising. They told me I didn't have to make a payment for 90 days which was actually a lie because I lost my car. When I spoke with the repossessing company they told me all I needed was a letter from Zergler Hyundai of Racine, where I purchased my car, explaining that I had 90 day to make my 1st payment and they refused to write the letter. They said it wasn't their problem that it was mine ?

SS number required for a cash sale???? No thanks.
Went to Zeigler to buy a new Santa Fe cash sale. After a couple hours we came to a price that was acceptable. During closing on the vehicle I was told they needed my SS number. I told them I have never had to submit an SS number to buy a car with cash. They insisted it was required. I called another new car dealer I'm familiar with and was told that the SS number was absolutely was NOT REQUIRED. Needless to say, didn't buy a car there. Will be going to another dealer that won't lie to me trying to access my SS number. This was not the sales person's fault. Was lied to by the finance people.

$900 in fees, Security fee scam
WARNING: Do not buy from Zeigler Hyundai or any other Zeigler stores without reading. They have $900 in fees they will add to the vehicle and they have other shady practices.

Synopsis: They list cars as certified online but try to get out of it, they will add $499 security fee that you cannot get out of, and they attempted to change the trade-in offer after putting it in writing. They also have a $399 service fee that will be tacked on to your vehicle. Understand these things before stepping foot in their store.

On 3/19/24 my wife found the vehicle she wanted on the lot at Zeigler Hyundai. Color, Trim, years mileage, etc. This is a 3.5 hour drive from our home so she called to set up an appointment and confirmed that it was certified as clearly stated on the website.

After she arrived they attempted to claim that the vehicle was not certified and it was a mistake on the website. (they conveniently have language in the fine print on the website that it might not be accurate). Luckily she called ahead and knew who she spoke to and when. They actually went back and reviewed the recorded phone calls before they would believe her and honor their word. They said it had already been through inspection for certification but that they hadn’t actually certified it with Hyundai yet. They repeatedly talked about how they were “eating” around $2000 in cost, like they were doing her a favor. The fact that they already sunk this cost makes me believe that they fully intended to upsell the certification and that they likely do this often. Also they only provided 1 key, which means they missed/ignored one of the inspection points, so we had to call to get that fixed.

She really liked the vehicle and the salesman Myles. The vehicle was in good condition and the salesman was professional and knowledgeable so she proceeded to talk numbers and trade in.

They sent a link to the trade condition report showing an “instant offer of $8575” and hand wrote that number with the selling price to show the tax benefits of the trade. Once putting things into official offer documents they reduced the number to $8000. They had to go back and forth several times to get it back up to $8500.

This official offer also included a lot of fees. She was able to decline all of them except the $499 security fee and the $399 service fee. Taxes and title and registration were also added but I consider those outside of the dealerships responsibility. The $399 service fee is well above industry average, but the $499 security fee is a straight scam. (for those counting at home this is almost $900 in fees). In very small print on their website they do list these fees. After talking to the sales manager he claims that they are unable to make these fees more clear on the website due to the capabilities of the website service that they use. He also claims that they cannot just add this to the listed price due to Wisconsin Law.

$499 ($500) Scam: Zeigler is installing a LoJack system on all of their vehicles and listing it as a Security Fee. They will let you get to the dealership and go through test drives before they let you know. If you ask them to remove this system and the fee, they will tell you they “cannot”. It is very easy to remove, it is attached to the back of the OBD2 port in the driver’s foot well. We have absolutely no use for this device. This Hyundai comes with Bluelink which can do the same thing but is harder to unplug/defeat. They said the only way to not get this is to not buy the vehicle. However they forced her to sign that it’s optional to move forward with the sale.

They will try to tell you that this hardware is required, or that all of the dealerships are doing it. It is only required to do business with Zeigler. The good dealerships are not doing this.

Ultimately, my wife did buy the vehicle and there have been no issues yet. In general she was treated with dignity and respect by most of the staff. 7 hours of driving and a full day of arguing was too much to go home empty handed over a $499 fee.

Unfortunately, everything they are doing is legal. It’s just shady and unethical.

This review will likely get met with a canned response from Zeigler offering to "make things right" as they have done with all of the other people that have complained. Before writing this review I talked with several people. The sales manager told me that the only way out of the security fee was to return the vehicle. There is no intention to “make things right” for anyone but themselves.

Great experience!!!!
Wow, wow, wow. I never imagined having a good experience buying a car. I was impressed by all the staff at this location especially our sales person, Emma. Emma was kind, professional, and made the process painless. As a woman, it's extra stressful buying a car because we feel we may be taking advantage of, not here. They were straight forward with everything. I was very impressed. If you want a great buying experience, ask for Emma.

Never received the price. And on top of it the car was already sold. Buyer beware
I I was promised that this person was going to work on their very best price first thing last Saturday morning and get it to me. I waited and I waited and I waited. And nothing so I had to reach out to him and said oh my gosh it's crazy. What the heck good does that do my quote. He says well I'll get it for you I'll get it for you. I waited and I waited and I waited and I waited and then got back to him again and he says I don't think that car is available. I said well it shows up on your inventory that it's available. For sale. And then he confirms the car was already sold. What a terrible practice. And I'm a repeat customer treated me really nicely didn't they. Won't be back there again except for service so be careful when you're going in

Wouldn’t Recommend for Purchasing
I would not recommend purchasing a vehicle here. The finance lady we met with was extremely rude and condescending and couldn’t explain anything to us when we asked questions about the cost of the vehicles, fees, and the monthly payment. Her only answer was “the computer figures it out for me”. The worst customer service experience we’ve ever had (our children were in the room with us and one of them even started recording on her phone because she (at the age of 15) couldn’t believe the way we were being talked to). The vehicle we purchased wasn’t detailed and is filthy but because we took delivery at night we didn’t notice it until the next day. I now have to spend more money to have someone detail it. I wrote an email, sending it to several of the people we worked with (including the sales manager) explaining our experience, my unhappiness with the condition of the vehicle (with photos), and asking about the LoJack and got no response. We are to the point we want to have an attorney look over our paperwork because of how shady our experience was!!

the car was ready to drive and chris said " there is No gas i need to fill up at the kwick mart let me go get a car card no worries
chris first question was if I wanted to finance the car i said lets see the car first
e

we drove to the station my daughter drove the car as she will be using the car. after about 10 minutes of the test drive after the test drive I saw the windshield and the sticker said 2020 i asked Chris is this the car I asked for .
He went inside and was assured that is was I said but the car had a navigation system on the add and moon roof he said that was the car I asked about the mile he said 62000 I said ok /

we decided to buy the car as my daughter liked it i i said lets talk price ect. Chris excused himself and came with the invoice i was over 26,000k I said woah what's gong on

I didnt ask for Lo jack i guess zielger puts in the cars puts it on cars with the undercoat
as when I saw the f and I guy he gave me a sheet on it so I assume that's the 499

i decided to go thru with the transaction and paid in full the only reason I did was because my delighter wanted the car I would have walked out personally but i didn't want to display that in front of my daughter
\ chris never went over the features of the car did Nothing to sell the car the car was ready I came into te dealers ship and saw 67 miles on the car I asked Chris i thought you told me you " filled up the car" he said we don't completely fill up used cars ( wow) its a 10 gallon tank) Never had the car NOT filled up at Ziegler or any other dealership before i saw there is only 1 plate he said thats all they do I said Illinois requires 2 he said the law is changing to 1 plate not to worry

he gave us 1 key fob I asked if there was regulars key he said that's all he had and its fine for a used car never had thsi happen at Ziegler ot any other place

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE
THIS PLACE ABSOLUTELY SUCKS!!! Please read this entire review, it may keep you from getting F****d over as badly as I did. I saw an add on the internet for a used car.I called immediately to see if the car was available. They said it was, but couldn't show it or allow it to be test driven because it was in the service center being checked out. They asked me to call back Monday. I live out of state in Illinois, and am extremely busy at work. I asked them to please allow me to see the car, even if I couldn't test drive it, because taking time off during the week is very difficult and costly. The service manager said that it would be ok for me to look at it, even though I couldn't drive it. I immediately drove up there because I wanted to be the first person to have a chance to purchase it. The car looked good I noticed a leak in the differential, which they said was going to be repaired. I Immediately told the sales person that I was going to buy the car provided If I found nothing majorly wrong after I was able to test drive it, even offered to put money down. Monday morning, I called to find out when I would be able to test drive it. I told the sales person to please call me as soon as it was ready. I reiterated thet I would take off from work, no matter what time of day it was because I wanted to make certain that the car would not be sold out from under me. I called back in the afternoon, and was told they were waiting for parts. I called the service department again during the evening to see if they had any updates. I was told that the parts hadn't come in. I called first thing Tuesday morning, and was told that the parts had not come in, but hopefully would arrive later in the day. I called again Tuesday afternoon, still no parts. I called the service department Tuesday evening, and was again told no parts yet. Called again first thing Wednesday morning, and the sales person told me that yes, the parts had come, and the car was being worked on. He said he would call me as soon as the repair was completed. I told him that I was leaving immediately, even if I had to sit around and wait because I wanted to be absolutely sure I wouldn't loose the car. I even apologized to the sales person for being a pain in the a**, but I wanted to be absolutely sure that I would not loose out on the sale. So I immediately left work and drove up to Wisconsin. When I arrived, I was told the car was not finished yet, to which I said it was no problem for me to wait because I wasn't taking any chances. A little less than an hour later, the salesman came to the waiting room to tell me that the car was finished, and I could finally test drive it. The car was great, and I said I wanted to buy it. So we went inside to do the paperwork. The salesman took the financing information, and said he would be back in a couple of minutes. About 5 minutes later, the salesman came back with a manager who proceeded to inform me that the car had been sold. I literally could not believe what I was hearing. Needless to say, I was Enraged! I have bought many cars and trucks in my 60 plus years, but I have NEVER BEEN THIS F***** OVER BUY A DEALERSHIP IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. After multiple phone calls reiterating that I was going to make certain that I didn't get screwed, and would do whatever it needed to make sure it didn't happen, that's exactly what they did. So after 2 trips to Wisconsin, many phone calls, and missing a day of work WITHOUT PAY!!! I was s**t out of luck. Then they tried to offer me a POS Toyota Rave 4 instead which was beat up, and had a class 2 trailer hitch that was clearly used alot. But not to worry, they gave me a $50 gas card for my trouble. You might be asking yourself how a supposedly reputable dealership could possibly be this inept. Please learn from my horrible experience, and don't allow them the chance to screw you the way they did me. I'm sure they'll respond to this review with the BS about how they are well known for their great customer service. What a joke.

Dishonest and irresponsible
This dealership is dishonest and irresponsible.

We went here specifically to check out a certain car that they had on their lot.
After test driving we started talking specifics.

First off. The list price had two prices listed. One at 32,000 something. One at 23,995. They claimed the lower was the accurate amount but with all their unnecessary added services and fees, final price ended up being approx $6,000 more. I understand licensing and state fees but that should only be a few thousand.

They forced an added service called Z-Guard for $2,495, which we didnt want. They refused to remove it as "it was already on the car." They offered a discount of $500 but after reading other reviews, this is a common scam they force on most of their sales. They also forced a $500 service called Low Jack onto us as "it was already on the car." It is a nice service but we should have the choice.

They gave us a "deal" to minimize our monthly payments. But somehow, on the back end, during finacing, the total price was increased to accommodate this.

But now is where it gets worse. Raul was specifically asked if there were modifications to the car. He mentioned the cool air intake, that's it. We found out after the sale that they lied about approx 3 other modifications to the car, including the fact that it did not have a CAT. We were shopping on a sat evening due to some unfortunate events so having it checked by a mechanic wasnt an option. But with the EAP recently changing requirements only a few months ago, making it illegal to even sell a car with a CAT-less system, I wouldve thought they would've divulged that fact. They didnt.

So now, we leave the dealership and the check engine light promptly comes on. Within a mile, if that. Surprise surprise the code pops 0420. Which is the code for the CAT. At this point we didnt know the car didnt have one yet. And the dealership still didnt admit the fact that the car didnt have one to us. They did replace the O2 sensor at no charge to us but promptly after leaving again the check engine light came on.

At this point, the dealership wasn't willing to work with us because they "dont have to guarantee a sale will pass emmisions" until they found out that we weren't told about these mods. You know, illegal.

It should be said that we had to find out on our own that the modifications, that they didnt divulge, actually needed a separate access port module for appropriate tuning so the mods wouldn't blow the exhaust system or the engine. That module was removed. We found the evidence. Also, without that module or a CAT on this car, this car will always blow o2 sensors and will not pass emissions.

So now at this point, they knew they fucked up, so they offered to fix it and add a CAT. But they refused to add a high performance CAT, which the car actually needs due to all the mods. They were only going to add a stock universal part. It was clear that they didn't care about the longevity of the car nor understood how to properly, safely fix the car. They just wanted to cover themselves legally even if that cover would damage the car potentially.

This is where I stand that they are irresponsible. This dealership has no business dealing with a car this modified. They knew on some level what they were selling and how to lie to get it sold. But honestly had no idea how to fix what they were dealing with appropriately. Or didn't care.

They ended up selling us a car that could blow at any point because it wasn't tuned appropriately for its modifications. This is irresponsible and unsafe and border line illegal.

Luckily we were able to figure it all out and take care of it the correct way. Of course on our own dime, after they upsold a faulty car, without divulging that info.

Shop here at your own risk.

Dishonest and push on added services
Original asking price $23,995. Forced their own Z-guard protection for $1,995. Originally $2,495 but claimed they were giving "deal" by lowering it $500. I stated I didn't want it and asked them to remove it. Oh, they can't as it's already on the car. Seems to be a common scam amongst their other sales.
Somehow after fees and added BS total cost of car was over $30,000. That's ridiculous! Oh and if you read on you'll see that the car they sold us wont even pass emissions. They knew it and didn't disclose it.
Well the paint was dinged and technically under the Z-guard, the fix would be covered. Was promised by the sales guy that when the car was dropped off for other service it would be fixed. Well? It wasn't. With zero communication regarding it either.
We asked if there were any Mods to the car. They stated yes, 2. Well turns out there were more than that, that they never told us about. Selling a car without disclosing after market modifications is very irresponsible and unprofessional. There is a certain amount of upkeep that needs to be done to make sure mods are running correctly and not damaging the car. They ultimately lied and knowingly sold us a car that 1. Doesn't have a catalytic converter. And 2. Will not pass emissions. They are open to trying to "fix" the problem by replacing blown O2 sensors....but that is just a temporary bandaid. That will not actually fix the problem. Would've been nice if they disclosed all of this but they have yet to admit to the lack of catalytic converter even.
I know this car was purchased "as is" but none of this falls under "as is". "As is" is all original parts except the 2 they claimed, not 4. "As is" means emissions would be passed because the check engine light wasn't on at time of sale. There is proof of their blatant dishonesty and irresponsibility in regards to the sale and potential covering up and wiping of old codes. I know that dealerships do whatever they can to make a sale. But this dealership went beyond that. I would not and do not recommend this dealership. Irresponsible. Dishonest. Don't expect anything more from them.
