$7,500 add-on WITHOUT consent
Do NOT buy a car here, they will add on finance products that you DO NOT WANT OR AGREE TO. Here’s the TLDR: $7,500 additional finance products without my consent, resultant higher interest and monthly payment amounts, 3 months of battling to process a refund I never should have needed. Here’s the longer version: I have purchased many cars over the years (new and used) and this was by far my worst experience. I purchased a new Hyundai, walked in told them the model I wanted and agreed to a price on the spot. The finance department then proceeded to take almost 4 hours to process the paperwork, at the end of which I was shown the final purchase order with $7,500 of additional warranties and insurance that 1. I was NEVER given any prices for, and 2. that I explicitly told them I did NOT want, without even knowing the price! The excuse was verbatim “oh I’ll have to re-print everything and that will take so long”. However, four hours had gone by, and it was near closing time, so in the interest of good faith I went ahead and agreed after reviewing and understanding that I could come back the next day and cancel for a full refund. HOWEVER, note that I have been accruing interest on a loan that is $7500 larger than it should have been, and am obligated to almost $100 per month higher payments, than was originally discussed. Sure enough, true to their word they cancelled the various add-ons. That was 3 months ago, and I finally got some refund, except for the GAP policy refund, which as of writing this, I am told was mailed to my bank but they have not seen it. Here’s the TLDR: $7,500 additional finance products without my consent, resultant higher interest and monthly payment amounts, 3 months of battling to process a refund I never should have needed. UPDATE as of 4/18/22: the GAP refund check of $1,500 took over a month to clear, and by then they had cancelled it and re-issued, causing it to bounce and a $25 fee to our account. I am told more than 3 months after the purchase of the vehicle and being saddled with higher interest, to “just wait”. I am having a phone call with a lawyer later today regarding possible litigation for the debacle.
